Hello Parents!
A huge thank you to our popcorn popping moms—Mrs. Heaton, Mrs. Knight, and Mrs. Varacalli this past Friday. We certainly appreciate all your work and time spent at the popcorn machine. Thank you!!!!
Another huge thank you to Mrs. Saylor for setting up our Halloween Party Sign up Genius. All slots are full, so more thank yous to all parents who donated items for our upcoming Halloween party.
October 31st will be busy in the Hive. Our party will begin at 1:00 pm and end at 2:00 pm, at which time our parade will begin. Our class then goes to gym at 2:45. If you choose to, your children may bring in a treat to pass out to classmates (25 students) at our party. Children are being asked to bring their costumes to school, changing into them after lunch.
Our first field trip is this Friday, October 25th. For parents who are driving, all paperwork should already be submitted to the office, if not PLEASE be sure to fill it all out this Monday!!!! We will be back to school in time for lunch, so we will follow our regular lunch routine.
Now onto our Hive plans:
Spelling: (long a patterns: ai and ay) Our words are: main, sail, tail, wait, train, jay, hay, may, pay and stay. Our bonus words are: brain, today and yesterday. The silly sentence is: Today the painted train will wait at the main gate.

Writing: Working toward our final copies for our opinion papers—Kit Kats or Skittles, which do you prefer? Some creative reasons for choices made.

Operation Gratitude Halloween Give-Back
Campaign Underway Candy for a Cause Teaching children the value of giving back by donating Halloween candy in support of Operation Gratitude is a win-win for kids and parents . This Halloween, local trick-or-treaters will join kids across the country when they donate their extra Halloween candy to Operation Gratitude at DuVall Elementary. The sweet treats will be included along with handwritten thank you letters in Care Packages sent to U.S. Service Members deployed overseas, and hand delivered to Veterans and First Responders serving in their local communities. Americans spend an estimated $2.5 billion dollars on a whopping 600 million pounds of Halloween candy each year. In 2018, more than 440,000 pounds of candy was donated to Operation Gratitude and distributed to America’s heroes in signature Operation Gratitude Care Packages and local deliveries around the country. “Operation Gratitude’s mission is to thank all who serve, forging strong bonds between grateful Americans and the Heroes who serve and protect them,” according to Kevin Schmiegel, Lieutenant Colonel, USMC (Ret.) and CEO of Operation Gratitude. “The Halloween Candy Give-Back Program provides every American child the opportunity to learn about service, sacrifice and generosity.”
We will be collecting candy in the office November 1st-4th.
Some of our students have already contributed to these wonderful programs. Thank you!!!!
That should cover this upcoming week and a bit beyond!:)
Have a wonderful week!
Fondly,
Mrs. Burke
