Busy Bees

Dearborn Public Schools

A few of my infamous tidbits

Hello!

I will be postponing my Tuesday video to Wednesday. I will be at school most of the day assisting with the distribution. Hoping to see your Busy Bees at school tomorrow!!!! πŸ™‚

I sent emails to parents whose children may still have a library book at home. Unfortunately, I don’t have book titles, just barcodes, so please do the best you can to check the bookshelves at home. If you can locate the book(s), please bring them to school tomorrow during the belonging distribution. Thank you!

Second, again if I sent you a note pertaining to Mr. Tapp’s remote gym participation here is the link to utilize:

Video/Assignment/Survey #1- use the link below to complete assignment #1. DON’T FORGET TO HIT SUBMIT.

June 1st- June 5th

Hello Parents!

Our June blog—-How can that “bee”? You did it and your children did it—we all made it to June!!! Yeah!!! Way to go!!!! We’re down to the last full week of our remote learning. I’m so proud of all of you!

A quick reminder that you may collect your child’s school belongings on Tuesday, June 2nd from 1:00-1:20. I will be there to help with the distribution, so I’ll keep my eyes open for your sweeties.

Please be sure to read your children’s various writing pieces that I’ve placed in your child’s bag. So awesome to note all the changes in their writing abilities. Also, I put a little “goodie” bag inside their white plastic bag. Please be sure they check those out. Thank you!!!:)

If your child has any library books at home, please be sure to return those on Tuesday. I found many of the library books in their desks and book boxes. I will try and send out a list of book titles that still need to be collected.

Our Final Full Week Hive 108 plans:

Reading: Epic (Father’s Day), Readworks (Summer themed), Scholastic News (Ice Cream) and Choice Selection

Totally Optional: A tradition in my class at this time of a regular school year has been to have my class perform simple plays with child made puppets. Everyone would create a simple puppet out of a paint stirrer or a ruler, paper, odds and ends for a variety of fun plays.

I searched for some short plays for students to use at home if they would like to carry on with this tradition. The site is: https://www.thewiseowlfactory.com/readers-theater-free/

Also, there is an Epic book that can be used:

https://www.getepic.com/app/read/14774

I truly miss this end of the year activity, that your children would have had an opportunity to engage in. All the children are always so proud of their puppets and working together making backdrops and practicing their plays. Just a wonderful ending event for them. We would perform for the 2 kindergarten classes and first grade classes. So if your children are up to it, you may want to oversee this project, or even save it for a later time during the summer break. Just a thought. πŸ™‚

Math: Continuation with Module 8 Fractions and an introduction to Time

Writing: Create a Father’s Day writing piece (see calendar)

Science: Mystery Science

Just a quick reminder, that all late or missing assignments may still be sent to me. I am working on report cards at this time and I want to make sure your children have the opportunity to complete those. Thank you!

Hoping to see everyone on Tuesday!!!! Enjoy your sunny day!!!! πŸ™‚

Fondly,

Mrs. Burke

Information for student belongings distribution

DuVall Families,

As our school year winds down, we have scheduled Tuesday, June 2nd as a day to allow families to pick up personal belongings that have been left at school due to the shutdown.  During this time, we will follow the same procedure that was used during the distribution of chromebooks and math materials to allow families to get back personal items for students that were left in desks/coat racks.  Also, we will collect any music instruments, library books, safety vests, and other classroom items that were borrowed prior to the COVID 19 Shutdown.  As learning is still taking place, a future date will be shared when any chromebooks on loan will be returned.  Please hand any returned items to the staff member assisting you and  any items will then be returned to the building.

The procedure allows for parents to drive up to the bus lane on Francis Street near the preschool door (door 4) on Tuesday, June 2nd.  Parents/ Guardians must have a Driver’s ID.  A DuVall staff member will bring the parent the bagged student belongings.  Please follow the schedule of distribution for classes below so that we can have an orderly distribution of the student property

11:00 – 11:20  Mrs. Courtright

11:20 – 11:40  Mrs. Ranka

11:40 – 12:00  Mrs. Moon

Plans for pickup of student belongings

Hello Parents!

I ‘ve had a few questions regarding the schedule for gathering your children’s belongings that still remain at school. Mr. Attee has put together a plan for Tuesday, June 2nd. Our time frame is 1:00-1:20.

I was in school today bagging all the contents of your children’s desks. I was able to include all their writing pieces, so please when you receive their bag, be sure to view those. It’s always been one of my favorite parts of the end of the year, comparing their first writing piece to their last one and those in between. There is so much growth. The children usually can’t believe how they used to print and how they used to spell. So adorable and exciting. Enjoy their observations and praise them for their growth. Thank you!!!! πŸ™‚

I was able to put most of the children’s headsets in their big bag, but a few sets were not labeled or had fallen out of their labeled baggie, so I took a picture of those headsets that need to find their owner. If you see your child’s let me know which one it is and I will add it to their bag (possibly tomorrow). Just send me an email. Thank you!

Again, if you see your child’s headset, let me know which one it is via email and I will be sure to put it in their bag for Tuesday pickup.

Having been at school for most of the day, I will try to correct all of today’s submitted work this evening. Sorry for the delay.

I have to admit it sure wasn’t enjoyable bagging all my little kiddo diddos things. I was able to smile as I found myself reading some of their writing pieces and going down our second grade memory lane. I never would have thought that any of my years teaching would have a school year end like this one. πŸ™

I will be helping with the bag distribution, so I may be lucky to see you then!!!

Any questions, don’t hesitate to ask!!! “See” you tomorrow (video).

Fondly,

Mrs. Burke

Last Week of May

Hello Parents!

This past weekend sure had the feel of summer as the high temperatures teased us!!! I hope everyone was able to enjoy the hot sunny days. For me, there’s nothing better for one’s disposition than the sun shining down on us.

Can you believe we are in our last week of May? One more short week and then it’s June. Again, I would like to compliment you on all that you are doing for your children. Keep up the over the top job of you’re sharing and working with your children.

Our short week’s plans:

Spelling: 12 months of the year, no Bonus words or sentence.

Reading: 2 Readworks articles, Epic, Raz Kids and or student choice

Writing: A descriptive piece of writing. Please have your child put some their creative ideas into the following writing prompt: If you could choose ANYWHERE to go right now, where would you go and with whom? Try to give at least 3 reason why this destination was chosen.

Math: Shapes and introduction to fractions

Social Studies: A family “road trip” (optional) to drive past the following Dearborn Historical sites: McFadden- Ross House, 915 Brady, Gardner House, Brady (directly behind McFadden- Ross house), and Commandant’s Quarters, 21950 Michigan Ave. Can your child tell one important fact about each site? Again, this is strictly optional, but your children may be interested in seeing a few of the buildings we discussed .

Science: Eyes to the night skies

Here’s to another another short week.

Stay safe!!!!

Fondly,

Mrs. Burke
