Hello Parents!
The anticipation and excitement of Halloween’s arrival is beginning to rise in our hive. We discussed Halloween treats for our party on Halloween Day. Mrs. Ferrell will be setting up a Sign up Genius for donations for our celebration. Thank you in advance for your donations. We will have a DuVall Halloween Parade at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 31st and our party will follow. Your children may change into their costumes after lunch. Mr. Attee will be sending out costume guidelines in the DuVall blog.
Now for our plans in Hive 108:
Spelling: Long a with the “ai and ay” patterns. Our words are: main, wait, sail, tail, train, jay, hay, may, pay, stay and the bonus words are: today, yesterday and brain. This week’s sentence is: Today the painted train will wait at the main gate.
Reading: Continuation with non-fiction, paying attention to text features and relating them to the topic.
Writer’s Workshop: Continuation with our opinion pieces, first drafts, revising and editing then onto our final copies.
Math: Continuation with place value, counting, and comparisons to 1,000. Please be sure that your child is completing their math homework and returning it to school the next day. We do review it for extra practice.
Science: Properties of Matter—projects are due this Thursday, October 25th.
Extra Tidbits:
*Permission slips are due this Wednesday, along with $10 per student and per chaperone. Thank you to parents who have already volunteered to drive for this trip.
*We will continue to collect Dried Fruit and Lifesavers for our troops, along with any extra Halloween candy until November 2nd.
*Friday, November 2nd—half day of school
Enjoy your week!
Fondly,
Mrs. Burke
