Hello Parents!
I wanted to explain a few tidbits (I know it will be more than a few) regarding this week’s calendar, so be ready for some reading material.
Reading: I have assigned 3 Readworks articles for this week. PLEASE be sure that your children are referring back to the article to help them answer the questions. Remember that all answers for essay questions need to be in complete sentences, otherwise your children will be asked to redo them. Thanks. On alternate days, RazKids reading is assigned. They can continue to make their own choices, please make sure your children are taking the quiz for the selections. I did include a challenge read (optional) on Tuesday, but it could be read any day. There is also an Epic video story. I am trying to give your children a little variety. Be sure they continue reading books you have at home. A good book in their hands is still very important to make strong literary connections.
Scholastic News: Look for the new issue listed near the bottom of the calendar.
Math: I would like you to explore another math link Knowledge on the Go.
https://gm.greatminds.org/en-us/knowledge-for-grade-2
You may find this more substantial for lessons. Unfortunately, it ends at Module 7 lesson 8, ( for right now), but it’s a great site. Instruction is for the actual math journal page(s) and the application problem. If you are feeling your child could use more practice beside their math homework page and Zearn, use this site. Your child can complete their work on paper. Also, when you login, there’s some fluency work- (Fluency Practice Library)—subtraction flashcards, coins in a can, etc…. Found by the Module 7 heading. I strongly encourage your children to work on these quick practice skills. Please take a look.
Application problems: I am requesting that you send me 2 of the application problems per week. Again, children need to follow the RDW format. Thanks!!!
Spelling: I would like to ask that your child only send me their spelling test. All other assignments need to completed, but they don’t have to be sent to me. I trust they are completing them and I can see accomplishments on Spelling City and of course their spelling tests. Thank you!!!!
Writing: Please utilize the tutorials for a personal narrative. They are all very short, to the point and have directions/terms we have used in class. I can’t wait to read their stories. The topic: How I Lost One of My Teeth, has always been one of my favorite assignments. Remind your children that we compiled a list of phrases and words for this writing during our school days. They may remember some of them if they think back. We never got to work on their storyboards and beyond, so we will pick up where we left off!!!! 🙂
Our “Specials” Teachers: Please be sure that your child will login to one of our “specials” teacher’s blogs per day. So appreciated!!!!
Thank you for your support and being so flexible. Daily changes are almost inevitable as we continue to navigate our remote learning process.
Let’s continue to be positive and work our way through these trying times. As always, fingers crossed for working links. 🙂
Here’s to a GREAT week!
Fondly,
Mrs. Burke
