Hi Parents!
Thank you for getting your child’s permission slip and money in on time for our field trip to MJR Westland Theater. Also, a huge thank you to the parents who volunteered to drive/chaperone. I need all who volunteered! If you haven’t filled out the paperwork in the office, you must do so on Monday, for processing purposes!!! 🙂
Our Hive Plans:
Spelling: (initial patterns: sk, sl, sp, st) Our words are: skin, skip, slope, slip, slug, spell, spin, step, stone, and stand. Our bonus words are: skate, staple and student. The silly sentence is: The silly student wanted to spin, skip, and step down the slope. One way your child can practice his/her list at home is to have mock spelling tests. This helps them to hear their words and some extra practice printing them. I do put notations on your child’s test designating possible letters to work on at home. Another printing concept is to try and keep their words on the lines. Children will have words marked wrong on their spelling tests if they use capital letters incorrectly. Just a few pointers to assist with your child’s success on their spelling tests.
Reading: Continuation with non-fiction text features. They are becoming expert detectives spotting and utilizing the various features within their non-fiction books. We will continue identifying the main idea and details that support it.
Writing: Opinion writing has begun. We worked on a practice piece and this week we will begin our new topic with a graphic organizer and first draft.
Math: Begin Module 3—Place value, counting and comparison of numbers to 1,000. I will be returning your child’s Module 2 test this week.
Science: Properties of Matter
