Hello Parents!

If you haven’t had the chance to walk past the DuVall Butterfly Garden, please do so. It is filled with all the children’s kindness rocks that were colorfully decorated with peaceful messages. It’s quite impressive!

Our Hive plans:

Spelling: (Long and short u) This week’s words are: cut, jump, cub, nut, bump, cute, tube, cube, rude, and use Our Bonus words are: must, glue and tissue. Our silly sentence is: The cute cub was rude when he cut the nut in two.

Reading: Introducing non-fiction text features, table of contents, captions, index, glossary, bold print for new vocabulary, photographs, etc.. and how these help to better understand the information related to the topic of a non-fiction book.

Writing: Our “Boo Boo” stories are completed, have been shared in class and are now hanging on our bulletin board. Ouch!!! Next, we will be working on an opinion piece utilizing a graphic organizer and then writing our first drafts.

Math: Completion of Module 2 is just around the corner, so our assessment will likely be near the end of the week—watch your child’s planner.

Social Studies: Continuation with Dearborn

Hive Tidbits:

Friday, October 11th: Half day of school

Wednesday, October 16th: Late Start

Friday, October 18th: DuVall Halloween Dance, 5:30-8:30 pm.

Thursday, October 24th: School Pictures

A huge thank you to all parents who worked with their children on shoe tying. Last Monday, most children came to school eagerly ready to tie their shoes. Now there’s less tripping. A handful of students still need to complete this task, so please continue to assist with this. Check out You Tube tutorials for some creative ways to tie shoes. They may help. Those dangling laces are a hazard. Thanks again for all the tying practice!

That about does it—-Happy week ahead!

Fondly,

Mrs. Burke
