Dearborn Public Schools

Sept. 30th – Oct. 4th

on September 29, 2019

Hello There!

I hope your child told you about decorating their kindness rock this past Thursday. The rocks will be a wonderful addition to the DuVall butterfly garden. Sending another thank you to Mrs. Hammoud and Mrs. Darwish for volunteering their time to assist our class with this school project.

Our plans for this week in the Hive:

Spelling: long and short o Our words are: fox, lock, pop, box, rob, poke, cone, robe, joke and bone. Bonus words: alone, throne, and produce. Our silly sentence is: The fox in the box told us a funny joke.

Reading: We will continue to answer comprehension questions in complete sentences at the conclusion of their fiction books. We will review comprehension, accuracy and fluency strategies and your child has a strategy that they are individually working on as he/she reads.

Writing: Completion of our “Boo Boo” stories. We will be sharing them in class and then hang them in the hall, bandaids included.

Math: We’ve been measuring a number of objects using centimeters and meters, along with mental benchmarks (a pinky nail as one centimeter, arm span estimation for one meter). Continuation with incorporating measurement into addition and subtraction story problems. (tape diagrams and decomposing)

Social Studies: Dearborn our unique community. Some focus will be on our local government. Pages will continually be added to our notebooks.

Tidbit for the week:

*Thursday, October 3rd: Celebrating Peace Day–wear pink

*Practice tying shoes!!!!!!!!

That should do it for the first week of October.

Fondly,

Mrs. Burke
