Astronomy at the Beach 2018
Once again, the Great Lakes Association of Astronomy Clubs (GLAAC) is partnering with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources this year to bring the event to the Kent Lake area of Island Lake State Recreation Area. The event will be September 14 & 15, from 6:00 pm to midnight, rain or shine, both nights. Outdoor astronomy activities demand clear skies, but there’s plenty to do in the tent and park building as well.

This year our theme is “Mars and the Great Planetary Show.” Come look through our big
telescopes at Mars, Jupiter and Saturn! We’ll also have a Mars talk in the big tent.

Second graders are learning about rocks. They first looked closely at the properties of the rocks, then they sorted they by the properties.

The kindergarteners are experiencing science by being engineers and creating cup towers. They are learning to work with materials and not get upset but keep trying.

The fourth and fifth graders began the year with an engineering challenge. They had to build a tower with pipe cleaners. It was harder than they thought it would be.

Welcome back to a new school year. I am looking forward to working with all the students again to enhance their science and engineering knowledge.
