This has been an exciting year in the science room. The students had fun while learning science and engineering concepts by doing activities. I have enjoyed getting to know each and every one of your children. I am always sad as a school year ends but I am excited about another year of science next year.

The kindergartners and first graders are working with balance scales this week. They are finding out which item is the heaviest.
The second graders finished a 2-week challenge to create a plant carrier with a handle that could transport a seedling across the room and back safely. 
The Kinders built their names out of blocks last week. Some of the letters like S and K were very tricky to figure out.
The kindergarteners had fun taking science outside. We had magnifying glasses, a clipboard and paper do draw our observations. We found a worm, rolly pollies, flowers, pine cones, and a lot of other cool nature items.
The third graders took science outside today. They tested their waterwheels to see how much work the wheel could do. They realized many things like- it works better if sprayed closer, it matters where you spray the water on the paddles, and it doesn’t always work the way you think it will.
The first and second graders are learning about heredity. They made a mommy or daddy bug. They then followed the directions on a card to make the baby bug. Some looked like mommy. Some looked like daddy and others looked like a mix of mommy and daddy.
For the last 2 weeks, the fifth graders have been learning about the Earth systems. They created a poster to show the different systems and examples of each.
This week first and second graders are busy as bees. They are testing different methods of pollinating flowers to see which one moves the most pollen and which material moves the least amount.
The fifth graders are learning about volume. This week they are being challenged to create a box with the greatest volume using only one sheet of 12′ x 18′ of construction paper and one foot of tape.
