The third graders are making a waterwheel to show how water can be used to do work. Next week we will go outside and test them!

Fourth graders are exploring electrical currents. They are creating a circuit with a switch.

The first graders explored air by creating rockets that used air (their breath) to fly.

The second graders are continuing to learn about rocks. This week in science enrichment we used a balance scale to get the weight/mass of different rocks.

The second graders are exploring the properties of rocks. They sorted different rocks, measured the mass, and checked the hardness of a rock.

The third graders are learning about the properties of water. In science, we explored the water using measuring cups, droppers, used a balance to change mL to mg, ETC.

The first graders are learning about air. We made parachutes. The students chose the materials they wanted to make it with and then we tested them by dropping them from the 2nd floor.

First graders are using science tools!

This week first grade through 5th graders have been working on mystery boxes. Although it looked different at each grade level, the students needed to figure out what was inside a box without being able to see inside it or feel the object. Scientists often work in areas where the answer is unknown. They have to use what they know to figure out problems just like our students did.

I am very excited to be teaching science enrichment again. We have begun the year doing team building activities. Kinder and first graders are building with cups. They are building confidence and continue trying even when their towers fall. Second and third graders are working to build a tower with a tool (string and rubber band). They cannot touch the cups with their hands and have to work as a team to make it work.
