We are now in the middle of the 5th card marking period. Progress reports will be generated in the week following spring break.
I will also pass out progress reports / missing work “pass” to any student who has assignments to make up.
We just completed a writing assignment on the Middle Ages. Please check parent connect for those grades. Also, we are practicing & preparing to take the M Step in late April. Currently students are working on activities & performance task writing in class.
This week we are working on gathering background knowledge of the Middle Ages. We will be using laptops in class to research the time period. Our final work will be a written paper. Reference p. 681 “Young Arthur” – Read in class on Monday, 3/9/15.
Final grades are due on Friday, March 13th for the 4th Card Marking.

We will be changing our reading logs!!!!!!!!! Instead of reading 20 minutes @ home each night, we will have silent reading time in class & students will respond to & analyze their reading on their log in school! Feel free to continue to encourage reading each day at home!!!
*Please note that reading logs are due this week. Starting this week in class we will work on a new daily reading & response log during class time.
Each student will keep their reading strategy log in the classroom & respond to their novels daily.
**Card Marking 4 ends on Friday, March 13th. If your child is missing work or has any make up or retake assignments, they will get a pass today. The pass will need to be signed & brought back when they make up their work ( 11 am during A2 annoucnements ). All work & make ups need to be done by Thursday, March 12th.
Parent Conferences will be in the evening on Wednesday, March 18th. Report cards will be passed out at that time.
This week we are taking 2-3 days to complete the NWEA MAP testing & retakes for ELA & Reading.
Students will be given their MAP results next week to compare their progress in reading.
We will also complete our “Color Poem” in class.

We will continue analyzing poetry & examples. Thursday students will use their peotry term booklet to complete a quiz in class.
Monday-Wednesday ~ respond to poetry / analyze text / answer writing prompt, Re: “The Road Not Taken” by Frost.
Due today: a “Bio” Personal Poem, all students worked on their poems in class.
Each student received a Cinquain Model to create their own poem for homework ~ this is due on Monday, Feb 9th!
*Remember to continue reading your library books each night for 20 minutes ~ parents please sign off on each day. The current log is due on March 6th, 2015.
**PTSA is asking that each student return their coupon fundraising books or purchase it for $25 ~ check payable to OL Smith.
We are starting a new unit on poetry. If your child has a favorite poem or poetry book, feel free to share it in class.
*** Reading logs are due on Monday, February 2nd, 2015. Make sure students are reading & logging each day / parents must sign off on the logs too.
** Thursday, Jan 22 is the last day to turn in any late or missing work for Card Marking # 3.
