This week marks the middle of the 6th marking period.  Progress reports have been generated & will be sent home.  I need you to check parent connect & see if there is any missing work in my Language Arts class.

Thursday, May 22 ~ I will take the class to the library to return & check out books for the last time this year.  Please come prepared with old books / bar codes or student ID.  Any fines for lost books will need to be settled this month.

We will continue reading the novel, Bud-Not Buddy in class.

Our work will focus on reading & writing strategies using the book.  Please check Parent / Student Connect & look to see if there is any missing work or make up work that your child may need to complete before progress reports are sent out the week of May 19th >>

May 5 – May 9, 2014

Today starts the beginning of the 6th marking period.  We just started the novel Bud, Not Buddy in Language Arts class today.  We will be reading this book in class.

 

Before this week is over, we will send home a reading report, SRI progress showing your child’s growth in reading over this school year.

 

**On Thursday, May 8th the next daily reading log is due.  Please check to see that your child is reading each day & having an adult sign off on the log.

 

**Report cards for the 5th marking period will be sent home in the middle of May.

 

All library books and textbooks will be collected on Thursday, May 22nd.  Any fines or missing material notices will be sent home with your child.

Library Books & SRI

On Thursday, May 1st we will return / check out library books again.  Please bring ID / barcodes / old library books.

On Friday, May 2nd we will once again take the SRI Lexile reading test for the final time this year.  The focus & goal is that each student will make growth in their reading lexile score from fall 2013 to spring 2014.  No matter where each student started, we aim for growth & improvement of their lexile SRI score.

This is the final week of the 5th marking period.

Please check grades online & turn in any late or missing work.  If you have received a progress report, you may have missing assignments.  **Also, students with missing work or needing re-takes were given a personal “note” / “pass” to come in on Monday or Tuesday and finish their work.

Thursday, April 10th – we will be returning & checking out new library books.  Please remember to come prepared with your current books.

Friday, April 11th – Test on Brian’s Hunt.  Review is Wednesday & Thursday.

**Next reading log is due before vacation – 25 minutes per day!  Turn it in on April 16th or 17th!

April 1-4, 2014

This week marks the first half of the marking period.  Progress reports for Marking Period #5 will be generated at the end of the week.  Please check Parent / Student Connect & see if there are any missing assignments in the grade book.  Any missing or late work can be turned in during : A2 am / Lunch / A2 pm.  Thanks!

The next reading log will be due April 17th before the Easter vacation break.

Conferences

If you were unable to attend conferences last night, your child will come home with a book list generated by the SRI test.  The books will be at your child’s reading level & in their interest range.  The score is in the “rectangle” at the top of the page.  By the end of 6th grade we are shooting for a goal score of 850 to 900 or more.

On Friday, students will choose a topic for fact finding.  A list of topics is attached.  Please help your child pick one that is of interest to them.  Each student will research 6 to 8 facts about their topic & write them on notecards.  There will be time Friday to search online, then they may need more time at home.  Notecards will be due on Tuesday, March 25th.

* Also ~ remember that the Daily Reading Log is due on Monday, March 24th.
