We are having summer learning this year!!! Exciting times! Here’s what you need to do.
Read a book. Don’t know what to read? Here’s a list, just click on this link: https://iblog.dearbornschools.org/brownj/wp-content/uploads/sites/2405/2019/06/Summer-Reading-List.pdf
There are also audio books that you can find here if you can’t get to the library or the book store: http://esl-bits.net/
NO GRAPHIC NOVELS ARE ALLOWED.
NONE.
NOT ONE GRAPHIC NOVEL.
THIS INCLUDES DIARY OF A WIMPY KID.
NOPE.
Once you read the book, you need to figure out the theme, or the message, of the book. You’re going to write three paragraphs about that theme and the evidence from the text that helped you figure that out.
Next, you will make a piece of art that represents your book. It can be a picture, a painting, a Google Slide, a 3D object, or even a poster board. If you’re not sure, ask.
You will present your project to the class, either in-person or online, however we start the year. You are also graded on your presentation.
Here is the Rubric. Don’t let it scare you. If you are going into 7th grade, it’s the same project we did last year. You may NOT do the same book.:https://iblog.dearbornschools.org/brownj/wp-content/uploads/sites/2405/2019/06/Summer-Learning-Concept-Book-Talk-Theme-1.pdf
This is not due the first day we get back, so don’t stress, especially if you’re going into 6th grade. You’ll have a couple of weeks at the beginning of the school year to fix it and to ask questions.

Dear Students and Parents,
I will not be assigning anything new next week. Please use this time to make up any missing assignments. If you don’t know what you are missing, go to your Student Connect to find out, don’t ask me.
You have until Wednesday to get your missing assignments in. If you have nothing missing, you are done with ELA for the year. I will not be rechecking any assignments for better grades unless I asked you to. I do NOT have the time. If something is graded, it’s graded.
For those who were following The Graveyard Book, I will continue to read that on my YouTube Channel into the summer. Again, that is just for fun, you don’t have to watch if you don’t want to, but some people have asked.
Stay tuned for one more video next week.

On Thursday, June 4, your parent can drive through the Salina parking lot and pick up what was left in your locker. You can also return library books, textbooks, and musical instruments. You may not get out of the car and no students are allowed in the school. Click on the flier for all of the details.

First: Please stop asking me to grade your late work right away. I am SWAMPED with late work and I will get to it as soon as I am able.
Quizzes for 7th and 6th grades will open up on Thursday morning and will close on Friday night at 11:59. You will have ONE chance to take the quiz. It will be a mixture of multiple choice and short answer questions that must be answered in complete sentences with correct capitalization and punctuation.
If you have been following along with the books, this quiz should be very easy for you, so don’t worry!
BBB sessions will be tomorrow if you have any questions. Go to your iLearn to get into the meeting.
First Hour: 12:30
Second Hour: 1:00
Block C: 1:30
Block D: 2:00

Dear Students,
If you do not turn something in (click “mark as done”) I am not going to hunt for it in the Drive. This is a huge waste of my time and it will stay marked as missing and will be a zero in the grade book. Make sure to turn EVERY assignment in, even IXL.
Also, do NOT turn something in that is blank. Again, it’s wastes SO MUCH of my time to look up assignments that have no work on them. You’re really not fooling anyone when you do that.
Thank you.

BBB Meetings for all classes this week are on Wednesday. Check your class page for times. Please understand that the joining window is only open for ten minutes so we don’t have people coming in at the last minute. BBB meetings are times for you to come and ask questions about the novel that we’re reading.
There will be no assignments on Friday or Monday for Eid and Memorial Day. Make sure that you are getting all of your work done.

All classes have BBB meetings tomorrow to discuss any questions you have on your novels or on any assignments. Check your Google Classroom page for times and details.

Dear Students,
When you complete an assignment, please do not forget to not forget to click mark as done to turn it in. I want to check your late work, but I do not have time to search through the Drive to see if someone has shared something with me. Attach your Doc assignment when you turn it in to make life easier, than I don’t have to hunt for it, please and thank you.

Hi Everyone! I love how most of you are getting your assignments turned in and asking questions through email. That’s awesome, keep it up!
A couple of things: Once you turn something in to Google Classroom, I’m going to check it as soon as possible. I’m not going to recheck it if you make corrections, I do not have time. Seriously, online grading takes so much more time than grading papers, so turn something in when you are truly done with it.
Secondly, if you turned in late work, that’s great, but I’m not going to check it immediately. I’m checking the work that came in on time first and then I will catch up the late work. Please do not send emails demanding that I check late work right now. I will get to it as soon as I can. If you want your work checked quickly, turn it in on time.
If any parents would like to get in contact with me, the best way is email. I do not give out my private phone number. My email address is brownj@dearbornschools.org
