SUMMER LEARNING!!! (Oh, yes!)

We are having summer learning this year!!! Exciting times! Here’s what you need to do.

Read a book. Don’t know what to read? Here’s a list, just click on this link: https://iblog.dearbornschools.org/brownj/wp-content/uploads/sites/2405/2019/06/Summer-Reading-List.pdf

There are also audio books that you can find here if you can’t get to the library or the book store: http://esl-bits.net/

NO GRAPHIC NOVELS ARE ALLOWED.

NONE.

NOT ONE GRAPHIC NOVEL.

THIS INCLUDES DIARY OF A WIMPY KID.

NOPE.

Once you read the book, you need to figure out the theme, or the message, of the book. You’re going to write three paragraphs about that theme and the evidence from the text that helped you figure that out.

Next, you will make a piece of art that represents your book. It can be a picture, a painting, a Google Slide, a 3D object, or even a poster board. If you’re not sure, ask.

You will present your project to the class, either in-person or online, however we start the year. You are also graded on your presentation.

Here is the Rubric. Don’t let it scare you. If you are going into 7th grade, it’s the same project we did last year. You may NOT do the same book.:https://iblog.dearbornschools.org/brownj/wp-content/uploads/sites/2405/2019/06/Summer-Learning-Concept-Book-Talk-Theme-1.pdf

This is not due the first day we get back, so don’t stress, especially if you’re going into 6th grade. You’ll have a couple of weeks at the beginning of the school year to fix it and to ask questions.
