Assignments, YouTube, and Storytime

Please make sure that you are checking Google Classroom EVERY DAY to keep up with your assignments. Several of you are not. Also, I have 70 people subscribed to my YouTube channel. That means 28 of you have not. Please click any of the links on Google Classroom to get there. I explain lessons on YouTube and starting today, I will be reading Neil Gaiman’s The Graveyard Book aloud. If you don’t know, the author, Neil Gaiman (one of my favorite authors) gave permission for his books to be read on video, something that’s normally not allowed unless you have special permission.

We are in session this week, but next week is Spring Break, so we’ll take a few days off.

Chromebooks and Other Updates

Today will be the last day that you can go get a chromebook at school because we are going on state lockdown soon. They will be handed out from 1-3 pm this afternoon and you MUST have a parent with you.

Please keep up on your work. All assignments are on Google Classroom. I am keeping track of your grades so that when all of this craziness is over, the grades will count.

We will meet this week on Google Hangouts since Zoom is blocked on the school computers. Please check your email and Google Classroom for updates.

I hope everyone is doing well!

Chromebooks, Google Classroom and X-Box

If you don’t have a computer at home and you’re using a phone or if you know another Salina student who does not have a computer at home, you can go to Salina tomorrow, March 19, from 10-12 and borrow a chromebook to use while we are out of school. You must have a parent with you who has ID.

You can also use your X-Box to use Google Classroom. Here is a link to see how to do it:

Updates and Assignments for 3/17/2020

Good Morning! Many of you are checking in with your work on Google Classroom and that’s awesome, thank you! Those of you that haven’t, I will be making more phone calls home today. It’s super-important that you are keeping up on your work. If you have questions, please email or message me. I have answered all of them that have come in and will continue to do so.

With all of us adjusting to our new normal, I am extending the due dates for IXL through the end of the week. You will receive another IXL assignment tomorrow and I will grade them together. Please make sure that you watch the video on how to annotate a Newsela article and then annotate the article I assigned you today. Follow the directions!!! I will be in touch every day, Monday through Friday, until we are back in school. Hang in there, folks.

CNN 10 and IXL

For all of my grades and classes:

We will be watching and answering questions on CNN 10 every day. Please go to Google Classroom for the link and the assignment.

You also have an IXL assignment due by 9:00 tomorrow morning. Some of you may have done this before, but we need to keep our skills sharp. Please notice that you now need a 90% in order to get your points. I will be checking my email regularly if you have questions.

You also need to keep reading at home. Don’t worry about any library books being overdue at this time, just read them. I will be asking you SSR questions later on.

If there is a student you know who does not have internet access, please let me know. Comcast and Xfinity are offering free internet to students and their families for two months.

I know this whole situation is very strange and confusing, but we will get though it together. Remember to stay home as much as possible, wash your hands, and don’t panic. Things will settle down soon. I love you all, hang in there.

Update on School Shutdown

Good Morning! I saw many of you this morning, but in case I didn’t, school is closed until April 13, one month from today. We will be continuing our lessons online starting Monday. You will need to check your email and Google Classroom every day for assignments and links to articles that we will be working on. I will email this to everyone today and if you haven’t subscribed to the blog, you need to do so now. There will also be a check-in on Google Classroom beginning today. If you have not checked in by Monday morning, I will be calling your house. If you don’t have steady internet access, go to this link and you can get free internet for two months along with the cables. https://www.wxyz.com/news/national/coronavirus/comcast-offering-internet-essentials-package-free-for-60-months-during-coronavirus-outbreak

Stay safe, wash your hands, and avoid going to places with big crowds. It will be an interesting three weeks, but we’ll get through it just fine.
