I shared The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle with first grade students.  Students drew a large leaf shape, added vein lines, and color to their leaves.  They made caterpillars using model magic and rolling spheres to make the caterpillar body parts.  They added pipe cleaner antennae and holes to their leaves to show that their caterpillars ate some of their leaves.
