COVID Quarantine Day 29

Good morning and welcome to APES! I hope you had a good Spring Break. There were a couple of nice days.

With the COVID lockdown affecting most of the world our carbon footprint has changed dramatically. A pandemic can do that.

Find an article that talks about the changes to our environment in the last month due to human activities (or lack thereof). Read it. Summarize it. Send it to me in Remind in two posts, maximum. One has the article link, immediately followed by your post that has your summary.

If you are taking the APES exam you should check out the College Board website: https://apcentral.collegeboard.org/courses/ap-environmental-science/exam

I miss you all and hope you are staying healthy.

Thank you,

T. Brown

COVID Quarantine Day 18

Good morning and welcome to APES!

I hope you are all doing well and staying healthy. Today’s assingments:

Read Chapter 13: Achieving Energy Sustainability.

Vocab to follow in Remind.

Continue with at least 5 QuizUps daily.

If you plan to take the AP Exam, it will behoove you to check out College Board’s website. There is talk of an “at home exam” and it would be all FRQ. I don’t think anything is set in stone, but I’d be very surprised if they canceled the test and refunded your money. VERY surprised.

Stay healthy and stay breezy!

COVID Quarantine Day 17

Good morning and welcome to APES. Happy April. Such as it is.

Since today is the last full month for seniors the QuizUp is getting serious. If you are in the top 10 in Michigan for the month of April you do not have to take the final exam. QuizUp IS your final exam. Anybody not in the top 10 in Michigan will be asked to take a multi-question final exam.

Send me a photo of your completed Ch. 12 Vocabulary. Do this in Remind, please. As a refresher the Remind code to text is @c248ee.

Tomorrow we start chapter 13.

Stay healthy and stay breezy!

COVID Quarantine Day 16

Good morning and welcome to APES.

Since yesterday’s post it has come to my attention that many of you are literally stuck inside and will not be able to do the Seek project. If this is your situation you are excused from the assignment. I will give full credit to those who complete the assignment.

Please continue to read Ch. 12 on Nonrenewable Energy Sources, study the vocabulary and do the five QuizUps/day (minimum). I see a couple of you are on the national leaderboard. The leaderboard for March ends today. The leaderboard for April and May will be important for those of you not taking the AP test. If you are in the top 10 in the state of Michigan or you take the AP test, then that is your final exam.

Today’s assignment: Challenge Mr. Brown three times in QuizUp. If you beat him two or three times then you are considered awesome and deserving of the highest accolades of the environment. Mr. Brown likes to get at least 100 every time he plays. Good luck!

Stay healthy and Stay Breezy!

COVID Quarantine Day 15

Good morning and welcome to APES!

You should continue with the vocabulary and reading of Chapter 12. Also, continue with the daily five (minimum) QuizUps, making sure your State setting is Michigan.

Finally, I was out yesterday on a little hike and saw some interesting spring plants, birds and other organisms. I used the Seek App to I.D. Trumpeter Swans vs. Mute Swans. Your Seek App project is due the day we come back to school or April 30th. Whichever comes first.

You’ll be making the Google Presentation and showing a photo you took of your 15 new organisms, 5 of which are NOT plants. A short description of the organism, where you took the photo, and if the species is native to Michigan (or to wherever you took the photo).

Stay healthy and Stay Breezy!

COVID Quarantine Day 12

Good morning and welcome to APES!

Today I would like you to finish the vocabulary, do your 5 QuizUps MINIMUM, and continue to read Chapter 12 on Nonrenewable Energy.

If you haven’t shown up in the Michigan leaderboard of QuizUp that is going to be a problem starting soon. You won’t get credit for your work starting on April 1st (no joke) if you don’t change your personal info in the settings to “Michigan”.

I’d like many of you to challenge me and I’d like to challenge you in order to add a little fun to our enforced isolation. I try to get over 100 every time. I rarely get much more, because I am slow, and I usually miss at least one of the questions. We can challenge more easily if you show up on the Michigan leaderboard.

Stay healthy and Stay Breezy!

COVID Quarantine Day 10

Good morning and welcome to APES.

Please continue to read chapter 12, do a minimum of five QuizUps daily, and stay up to date on this Blog.

Today’s assignment is on page 321. It’s in blue. Do The Math. How does carpooling affect your energy expenditure? Do the “Your Turn”. Send results via Remind. Show your work in detail.

Thanks,

Stay Healthy and Stay Breezy.

COVID Quarantine Day 9

Good morning and welcome to APES!

I hope you had a chance to send me your answer to yesterday’s FRQ about Trinidad. It’s really good practice for this year’s AP Exam.

Here’s another one for today: Page 309 Measuring Your Impact

Answer (a), (b) and (c) in a google doc and share it with brownt.

Make sure you read pages 310-313 about Organic Food.

Tomorrow we start Chapter 12. Please read all of it. Non-revewable Energy Resources is an important chapter in the life of an APES student.

Thank you,

Stay healthy and stay breezy.

COVID Quarantine Day 8

Good morning and welcome to APES. I hope you had a nice weekend and are enjoying the good-packing snow that fell overnight. Isn’t it beautiful?

The AP Exam includes Free Response Questions every year. These FRQs require you to write concisely and to thoroughly explain your answers to a multi-part question. On page 308 of your textbook there is an FRQ, #2 about a survey of people in Trinidad and their views on Genetically Modified (GM) foods. Please write your responses in a Google Doc titled (My Name and Trinidad) where the My Name is actually your name. So, mine would be Tom Brown Trinidad. Make sure you answer a-d after reading the survey. It should not take long since you are asked to do 4 FRQs in 90 minutes in the normal AP Exam, so just over 22 minutes per question. I will try to take a picture of the question and send it via Remind for those of you (cough cough Maria) who are bookless in this trying time.

The AP Exam may be an all FRQ exam this year, depending on the College Board and on the corona virus. They are supposed to come up with a more definitive plan in early April.

Please share your FRQ with brownt today and continue with the QuizUp.

Thank you,

Stay Healthy and Stay Breezy
