Focus for the Week of December 4, 2017
Our second grade students will be working and practicing these skills this week:
Reading: Students will learn to recount stories, including fables and folktales from diverse cultures, and determine their central message, lesson, or moral.
Writing: Students will learn to write narratives in which they recount a well‐elaborated event or short sequence of events, include details to describe actions, thoughts, and feelings, use temporal words to signal event order, and provide a sense of closure.
Math: Students will learn to understand that the three digit number represent amounts of hundreds, tens, and ones; e.g. 706 equals 7 hundreds, 0 tens, and 6 ones.
Science: After identifying three states of matter (solid, liquid, gas), students observe a variety of solid objects. After a period of free exploration, students describe properties of the objects and develop vocabulary in order to communicate their thinking about those properties.
Social Studies: Students will learn about diversity, how governments keep people safe and how to solve problems in a community.

Our second grade students will be working and practicing these skills this week:
Reading: Students will compare and contrast the most important points presented by two texts on the same topic.
Writing: Students will continue to work on informational research and writing.
Math: Students will learn to tell and write time from analog and digital clocks to the nearest five minutes, using a.m. and p.m.
Science: Students will continue to investigate soil and earth materials.
Social Studies: Students will learn to understand that communities are a combination of landforms and bodies of water by looking at pictures of communities and explaining how it impacts the community.
PBIS Reward-Magician Show
On Tuesday, November 21, 2017 Miller Elementary celebrated great behavior with a Magic Show. The students enjoyed all of the magician’s and his assistant’s neat tricks and mysterious doings. It was a terrific reward time for everyone who attended.
Student of the Month and Achievement Award Assembly
We celebrated great NWEA scores, student of the month and bucket fillers for September and October. The second graders in our class who were honored were: Ebraheem Saleh, Abdulmohsin Adhalimi, Dania Diab, Nisreen Alqweri, Salma Tabaja, Muhammed Nagi, Dania Musid and Abdulrahman Nasser.
