Focus for the week of January 22, 2018
Our second grade students will be working on:
Reading: Students will learn how to compare and contrast two or more versions of the same story (e.g., Cinderella stories) by different authors or from different cultures. They will also learn how to use information gained from the illustrations and words in a print or digital text to demonstrate understanding of its characters, setting, or plot.
Writing: Students will write opinion pieces in which they introduce the topic or book they are writing about, state an opinion, supply reasons that support the opinion, use linking words (e.g., because, and,also) to connect opinion and reasons, and provide a concluding statement or section.Students will with guidance and support from adults and peers, focus on a topic and strengthen writing as needed by revising and editing. They will recall information from experiences or gather information from provided sources to answer a question.
Math: Students will learn to recognize and draw shapes having specified attributes, such as a given number of angles or a gibe number of equal faces. Identify triangles, quadrilaterals, pentagons, hexagons, and cubes.
Science: Students will plan and conduct an investigation to describe and classify different kinds of liquids by their observable properties.
Social Studies: Students will be learning to understand that citizens have responsibilities and important roles in the community. Also, they will be learning what patriotism is by listing examples and analyzing the Pledge of Allegiance.

Science: Students will plan and conduct an investigation to describe and classify different kinds of materials by their observable properties.
Social Studies: Students will be learning about laws in our community and how our government is set up and works.
