Our second grade students will be working on:
Reading: Students will learn to recount stories, including fables and folktales from diverse cultures, and determine their central message, lesson, or moral.
Writing: Students will write narratives in which they recount a well‐elaborated event or short sequence of events, include details to describe actions, thoughts, and feelings, use temporal words to signal event order, and provide a sense of closure
Math: Students will learn to use addition to find the total number of objects arranged in rectangular arrays with up to 5 rows and up to 5 columns; write an equation to express the total as a sum of equal addends. Science: Students will plan and conduct an investigation to describe and classify different kinds of liquids by their observable properties.

We will be off school for a week from Feb. 17-25. Students have assigned lessons to work on. They can go on MobyMax and practice needed skills there. Please read everyday and have a great week off of school!
All students have reading and math lessons assigned on the computer that they can work on while they are at home. Your student can go to MobyMax through clever by signing in through their email and password. They have been on this website many times in class and this should be easy for them.
Our second graders had a great time at the LegoLand field trip. Students were able to explore, build and learn while on our trip.
There is a PTA meeting/open house in the cafeteria 9 AM. The topic will be nutrition and hygiene.

Writing: Students will write narratives in which they recount a well‐elaborated event or short sequence of events, include details to describe actions, thoughts, and feelings, use temporal words to signal event order, and provide a sense of closure
Math: Students will learn to add up to four two-digit numbers using strategies based on place value and properties of operations. The will use addition and subtraction within 100 to solve word problems involving lengths that are given in the same units. e.g., by using drawings (such as drawings of rulers) and equations with a symbol for the unknown number to represent the problem numbers.
Science: Students will plan and conduct an investigation to describe and classify different kinds of liquids by their observable properties.
Social Studies: Students will be learning to understand what scarcity is and what natural resources are and how they are used.
The homework packet is brought home on Monday which includes all the homework listed below. The packet is due on Friday.
Monday-read 20 minutes, study for math test-math, spell words out loud 3 times to an adult.
Tuesday-read 20 minutes, adding 3 numbers-math and spelling triangles.
Wednesday-read 20 minutes, spelling 3x each, write a number model and find the sum-math.
Thursday-read 20 minutes, spelling-rhyming words, open number line-math.
***Spelling test on Friday.
Friday, Saturday and Sunday-read 20 minutes.
