Weekly Focus

Reading: Student will learn to recount stories, including fables and folktales from diverse cultures, and determine their central message, lesson, or moral.

Math:  Students will use addition and subtraction within 100 to solve one- and two-step word problems involving situations of adding to, taking from, putting together, taking apart, and comparing, with unknowns in all positions, e.g., by using drawings and equations with a symbol for the unknown number to represent the problem.They will fluently add and subtract within 100 using strategies based on place value, properties of operations, and/or the relationship between addition and subtraction.They will mentally add 10 or 100 to a given number 100-900, and mentally subtract 10 or 100 from a given number 100-900. Students will be able to explain why addition and subtraction strategies work, using place value and the properties of operations.

Writing: Students will understand how to write an opinion paper. They will work on the steps in the writing process from drafting, revising, editing to publishing.

Science: Students will learn about the structure and properties of matter. They will learn that different kinds of matter exist and many of them can be either solid or liquid, depending on temperature. Students will learn that matter can be described and classified by its observable properties A great variety of objects can be built up from a small set of pieces.

Social Studies:  Students will use components of culture (e.g., foods, language, religion, traditions) to describe diversity in the local community.

Homework over the break from December 21st to January 5th, 2020

Students were given a math packet to complete over our time off. Also, zearn and iready, and reading needs to be done everyday. We will be having NWEA testing in January and need students to be prepared. Thank you for working and encouraging your child to complete this work. I have enclosed a calendar below for everyone to download and use but also sent this home with your child.

Holiday Sing Along

Award Ceremony

The second grade and third grade students celebrated academic achievement, as well as being bucket fillers and improved academics in an assembly. NWEA high achievement awards were also given out.

Jump With Jill Assembly

Miller Elementary was privileged to take part in an assembly designed to encourage healthy eating and exercise. Jill and DJ both encouraged students musically, vocally, and with enthused motions and movements.

Math:  Students will compare and count within 1000; skip-count by 5s, 10s, and 100s.

Writing: Students will understand how to write an opinion paper. They will work on the steps in the writing process from drafting, revising, editing to publishing.

Science: Students will learn about the structure and properties of matter. They will learn that different kinds of matter exist and many of them can be either solid or liquid, depending on temperature. Students will learn that matter can be described and classified by its observable properties A great variety of objects can be built up from a small set of pieces.

Q Parent Connect has arrived… for easy installation please follow the instructions below.

  • NEW FEATURE – Q PARENT CONNECTION MOBILE APP:   Mobile App and Desktop version that allows parents to report absences for their students.

This is a mobile application that provides parents with direct access to student data via the phones. Using a confidential PIN (Personal Identification Number) and password, parents can connect to the school district’s student database.  Follow the following steps:  

  • APPLE DEVICES:  
    • Go to the App Store
    • Search for “Q ParentConnection”
    • Select “GET” to start downloading the app
  • ANDROID DEVICES:  
    • Go to the Play Store
    • Search for “Q ParentConnection”
    • Select “INSTALL” to start downloading the app
