This week our second grade students will be working on:
Reading: Students will learn how to compare and contrast two or more versions of the same story (e.g., Cinderella stories) by different authors or from different cultures.
Math: Students will learn to measure the length of an object twice, using length units of different lengths for the two measurements; describe how the two measurements relate to the size of the unit chosen. They will also learn to estimate lengths using units of inches, feet, centimeters, and meters. Estimate lengths using units of inches, feet, centimeters, and meters.Students will measure to determine how much longer one object is than another, expressing the length differences in terms of a standard length unit.
Writing: Students will work on narrative writing in which they recount a well‐elaborated event or short sequence of events, include details to describe actions, thoughts, and feelings, use temporal words to signal event order, and provide a sense of closure They will work on drafting, editing, revising and publishing.
Science: Students will learn about plants and insects. We will be investigating and discussing butterflies, mealworms/beetles, silkworm moths and brassica plants. Students will be drawing, writing, comparing and contrasting the life cycles of insects and plants.
Social Studies-Students will be learning about citizens and how they are an integral part of a community.
