Focus for the week of May 14th

This week our second grade students will be working on:

Reading:  Students will learn how to determine the meaning of words and phrases in a text relevant to a grade 2 topic or subject.

Math:  Students will learn to measure the length of an object twice, using length units of different lengths for the two measurements; describe how the two measurements relate to the size of the unit chosen. They will also learn to estimate lengths using units of inches, feet, centimeters, and meters.

Writing:  Students will work on narrative writing.  They will work on drafting, editing, revising and publishing.

Science: Students will learn about plants and insects.  We will be investigating and discussing butterflies, mealworms/beetles, silkworm moths and brassica plants.  Students will be drawing, writing, comparing and contrasting  the life cycles of  insects and plants.

Social Studies-Students will be completing the history unit and beginning public discourse.
