Focus for the Week

This week we will be testing in reading and english language arts on the NWEA test.

Our focus for the week will be:

Reading:

In reading we will be working on the following common core standards.  CCSS: RI3. 3 Describe the relationship between a series of historical events, scientific ideas or concepts, or steps in technical procedures in a text, using language that pertains to time, sequence, and cause/effect.

Math:

In math we will be working on fractions in these common core standard areas.  CCSS: 3.NF.3.d Compare two fractions with the same numerator or the same denominator by reasoning about their size. Recognize that comparisons are valid only when the two fractions refer to the same whole. Record the results of comparisons with the symbols >, =, or <, and justify the conclusions, e.g., by using a visual fraction model. 3.G.2 Partition shapes into parts with equal areas. Express the area of each part as a unit fraction of the whole. For example, partition a shape into 4 parts with equal area, and describe the area of each part as 1/4 of the area of the shape.

Writing:

In writing we will be working on compare and contrast writing.  This will include using a Venn Diagram and using 2 articles to discuss in our writing work.

Social Studies:

In social studies, we will be looking at artifacts on lumber and mining in Michigan.

Science:

In science we will be learning about the earth and its processes. Standards: ESS2: How and why is Earth constantly changing? ESS2.C: The roles of water in Earth’s surface processes. ESS3: How do Earth’s processes and human activities affect each other? ESS3.C: Human impacts on Earth systems.
