Dearborn Federation of Teachers Donate Books to DPS Students

The Dearborn Federation of Teachers (DFT) recently donated a book to every student in one classroom at one elementary school, a middle school and one high school. This is the fourth year that the DFT has made the book donations as part of their ongoing effort to provide “a free book for every student in Dearborn. Students who stopped by the DFT/DPS booth at the Dearborn Homecoming festival in August had the opportunity to enter the drawing to win free books for their classrooms. The winner received an additional book for having their name drawn. This year’s winners were Bryant Smith in Mrs. Bridgeman’s 3rd Grade at Miller Elementary, Calder Skazalski in Ms. Bailey’s 6th Grade Language Arts Class at Bryant Middle School, and Miranda Manszewski in Mr. Pletzke’s 9th grade Language Arts Class at Edsel Ford High School. Congratulations to all of our winners. “This is my favorite day of the year!” said DFT Community Outreach Chair John Bayerl. “It’s great to see the excitement these books bring to the students and their teachers. Hopefully these books help our students become lifelong readers and lifelong learners.” To date, the DFT has distributed over 6,000 books to Dearborn students. Also, many district teachers have used FirstBook.org to provide their students with books.
