Our learning goals for this week:
Math: We will continue with last week’s unit where children will be measuring lengths using customary and metric units linear measures and developing the concept of area through many concrete and visual representations, with an emphasis on area.
Reading: Continue with last week’s unit regarding reading fiction texts, such as Legends with an emphasis on
Unit Content Targets:
Knowledge of legends, including setting, characters, and events
Distinguish a legend from a myth
Explain the theme of various legends
Compare and contrast various examples of legends
Justify key elements of a legend and give reasons why
Science: This week’s focus will be on light and how light travels:
Focus Questions:
How does light travel?
How do we see objects that do not make light?
Writing: As with every unit, building our understanding of the writing process is highlighted this week, by using prewriting and drafting this week to state our opinions and formulate supportive reasons and examples.
Social Studies: Continue our focus on Michigan History, starting with the our first native Americans the Hopewell Indians and continuing on with the 3 Fires.
Essential Questions:
How did the actions, ideas and cultural beliefs of people who settled Michigan influence its history?
How do historians use primary and secondary sources to learn about the past?
What can we learn about American Indian beliefs through their traditional stories?
What kinds of questions do historians ask?
