Leveled Literacy Intervention

Hello! I am the new Early Childhood Specialist for Oakman Elementary and Howard Elementary. My role is to give extra intervention to kindergartners in reading and writing. This is an intervention that is in addition to what the children will be getting from their classroom teacher. The classroom teacher and I will be using a Leveled Literacy Intervention program. This is a short term program that will last 18-24 weeks. Our goal is that 100% of all kindergarten students will be reading at grade level.
I’m really excited to be working with the children. The lessons are designed to be short, and fun. Each LLI lesson includes a combination of reading, writing, phonics and word study. It places an emphasis on comprehension strategies in both fiction and non-fiction.

In order for your child to be successful, we really need your help at home. Please make sure your child is coming to school daily, reading nightly, taking care of the materials and bringing his/her book bag to school every day. I will be collecting old books and replacing them with new books.
Each night, your child will bring home a “Take-Home Book,” which is a copy of a book he/she has already read in school. Your child can read the Take-Home book to you, and older sibling, or caregiver. Your child should be reading EVERY night. The book bag must come back to school every day. Please take extra good care of the books and materials that come home. This program is very expensive and each component is important to completing the program.

If you have any questions please email me. If you would like to set up a meeting, please email me and I would be happy to arrange it.
