Thursday

Content Objective

Students will demonstrate knowledge of what the Atomic Structure of an atom looks like by making a drawing of one atom of the element that they chose.

P.PM.07.23 Illustrate the structure of molecules…

Language Objective

Students will complete research of their element including it’s atomic structure.

Today in class the students took the quiz on section (3-1) Elements

HOMEWORK – Work on element research project

Wednesday

Content Objective
Students will demonstrate comprehension of what elements are and how they are listed on the periodic table by reading pages 56-59 in their textbooks.

P.PM.07.22 Describe how the elements within the Periodic Table by similar properties into families…

Language Objective
Students will complete a directed reading worksheet while reading pages 56-59 in their textbooks.

HOMEWORK – Study for quiz on section (3-1) Elements (pp 56-59)

HOMEWORK – Keep working on element project

Monday

Content Objective
Students will demonstrate knowledge of what metal, nonmetal and metalloid elements are and how they are listed on the periodic table by completing an activity where they explore the Periodic Table of Elements.
P.PM.07.22 Describe how the elements within the Periodic Table by similar properties into families…

Language Objective
Students will complete sentence frames to demonstrate that they have a basic understanding of how the Periodic Table is organized.

“The element _____ is a metal because it’s properties include ___, ___, and ___.”

“The element _____ is a nonmetal because it’s properties include ___, ___, and ___.”

“The element _____ is a metalloid because it’s properties include properties of both ____________ and _____________.

HOMEWORK – Finish sentence frames, finish coloring periodic table, and work on Element Poster/PowerPoint project.

Thursday

Content Objective
Students will demonstrate knowledge of elements, pure substances and atoms.

P.PM.07.21 Identify the smallest component that makes up an element.
P.PM.07.22  Describe how the elements within the Periodic Table are organized by similar properties into families

Language Objective
Students will read and write during an activity that helps them to better understand the periodic table of elements.

Today we looked at a PowerPoint about Elements and discussed how they get their symbols.  The students then worked on a worksheet designed to help them become more familiar with the periodic table and the elements that make it up.  Tomorrow each student will choose an element that they will research and begin the process of creating a PowerPoint or poster that they will present to the class in about two weeks.

Tonights HOMEWORK – finish the Elements Symbols worksheet.

Wednesday –

Today the students finished the close read activity in their new groups.

Content Objective
Students will demonstrate knowledge of elements, pure substances and atoms.

P.PM.07.21 Identify the smallest component that makes up an element.

Language Objective
Students will read and write to demonstrate knowledge of physical properties by completing a close reading of section (3-1).

HOMEWORK – None

Tuesday – Parent Teacher Conferences

Content Objective
Students will demonstrate knowledge of elements, pure substances and atoms.

P.PM.07.21 Identify the smallest component that makes up an element.

Language Objective
Students will read and write to demonstrate knowledge of physical properties by completing a close reading of section (3-1).

Today we finished up the density interactive lab by completing the sentence frames in class.  We then began a close read activity in class with partners.  I will include the sentence frames for absent students.

  • “To calculate the density of a substance you must first measure _______________.”
  • “ You then use the formula _____________ and input the ______ and ______ values.”
  • “ The density of a substance does not change if you use a different size sample because ________________________ ______________________________”.
  • “Some common errors when measuring density include_________________.”

HOMEWORK – None

Monday – Parent / Teacher Conferences

Today we discussed the student results of the NWEA test and what they mean.

After that we finished looking at the results of the Density interactive Lab.

We did not get to the sentence frames with most classes so I will postpone them until tomorrow.

Homework – None

Friday –

Content Objective
Students will demonstrate comprehension of physical property of density.

P.PM.07.24 Describe Examples of Physical and Chemical properties of elements and compounds (boiling point, density, color, conductivity, reactivity)

Today we went over the interactive density lab with the class using the document camera and the Promethean board.  We did not finish so we will complete it on Monday and the sentence frames will be postponed until Monday.

HOMEWORK – None

Thursday

Today we finished up the NWEA testing and then students worked on an interactive online density lab.  The linkk to the site is on iLearn and the questions are too.

HOMEWORK – Finish the density lab
