Wednesday

Content Objective
Students will demonstrate application of identification of chemical changes by completing a lab activity with their cooperative learning groups.

P.CM.07.21 Identify evidence of chemical change through color, gas formation, solid formation, and
temperature change.

P.CM.07.22 Compare and contrast the chemical properties of a new substance with the original after a chemical change.

Language Objective
Students will complete a data booklet to demonstrate that they recognize evidence of a chemical change.

In class today the students received their grades on their element research project and presentation.  The grades are already in the gradebook and can be viewed on parent and student connect.  We also began a chemical reactions lab today and we will work on it again tomorrow.

HOMEWORK – Students should continue to prepare for the chapter 3 test

Tuesday

Content Objective
Students will demonstrate knowledge of what Reactants and Products are.

S.CM.07.23 Describe the physical properties and chemical properties of the products and reactants in a chemical change.

Language Objective
Students will speak during a presentation  to help them to better understand the periodic table of elements.

Today we finished up the student element presentations.  We also did a close read of an article.  The students should be studying for next weeks test on chapter 3

Monday

Content Objective
Students will demonstrate knowledge of what solutions are.

Language Objective
Students will speak during a presentation  to help them to better understand the periodic table of elements.

Today we continued with the student presentations of their element projects.

HOMEWORK – Students should begin studying for the chapter 3 test which will be next week.

Thursday (Projects are due)

Content Objective
Students will demonstrate knowledge of what mixtures are.

Language Objective
Students will speak during a presentation  to help them to better understand the periodic table of elements.

Today the students participated in a “Pre-grading” activity in which they presented their projects to their cooperative learning groups and received feedback from their peers as they compared it to the rubric. I am allowing the students to make corrections/improvements if needed befor the official presentations and grading begin tomorrow.  I will post a few photos in a followup post.

HOMEWORK – Only if needed to improve a project

Tuesday

Content Objective
Students will demonstrate application of what compounds are by completing an activity in which the classify substances as either elements or compounds and list what elements they are composed of.

P.CM.07.22 Compare and contrast the chemical properties of a new substance with the original after a chemical change.

Language Objective
Students will complete a quiz to demonstrate that they have a basic understanding of what a compound is.

HOMEWORK – Students will finish the “WS – Elements Symbols and Chemical Formulas” if they did not finish it in class.  The students should also be working on their Element Project.

Monday

Content Objective
Students will demonstrate comprehension of what compounds are by listing several examples.
P.CM.07.21 Identify evidence of chemical change through color, gas formation, solid formation, and temperature change.

P.CM.07.22 Compare and contrast the chemical properties of a new substance with the original after a chemical change.

Language Objective
The students read section 3-2 about Compounds and com[leted a directed reading worksheet with their groups.  They also completed a sentence frame to demonstrate that they have a basic understanding of what a compound is.

“______ is a compound that is composed of the elements ___ and ____ chemically combined.

The students completed the sentence frame as part of the bellwork and not as a separate assignment this time.

HOMEWORK – Tonight the students should be studying section two of chapter three about Compounds for tomorrows quiz.  They should also be working on their Element Project and the presentation that goes with it.

Friday

Content Objective
Students will demonstrate comprehension of what compounds are by defining the term and listing several examples.
P.PM.07.22 Describe how the elements within the Periodic Table by similar properties into families…

Language Objective
Students will complete sentence frames to demonstrate that they have a basic understanding of what a compound is.

“______ is a compound that is composed of the elements ___ and ____ chemically combined.

Today we discussed compounds and looked at sodium chloride as and example.  We watched several youtube videos about the elements chlorine and sodium and discussed how they loose their properties when they combine chemically.  We did not have time to answer the sentence frame in all classes.

HOMEWORK – Work on element project (poster or PowerPoint)
