Language Objective
Students will discuss and write to gain a better understanding of how the Metric System works and how it is easier to use than the Standard System by completing a bellringer.

Today the students continued to grasp a deeper knowledge of measurement systems work by watching a video clip about the history of measurement systems.  The also created a chart in their notebooks to keep track of their assignments.

I can demonstrate application of how to write a step-by-step procedure by writing a procedure for “How to balance 10 nails on the head of one”.

Language Objective
I can write to complete several revisions of my procedure of “How to balance 10 nails on the head of one”.

We took a few minutes of each class to talk about Montreal – Quebec City school trip coming up this May.  The students then had the opportunity to balance 10 nails on the head of one and each student accomplished this.  The students then began writing a procedure for balancing ten nails on the head of one.

HOMEWORK – Write a procedure for balancing ten nails on the head of one.

Wednesday – Parent Teacher Conferences Tonight

Content Objective
I can demonstrate analysis of how to write a step-by-step procedure by pre-grading my peers “How to brush your teeth” homework.

Language Objective
I can read and discuss to pre-grade my peers “How to brush your teeth” procedures.

Today the students had the opportunity to work in small groups and pre-grade each other’s homework “a step-by-step procedure ‘How to Brush Your Teeth’ ”.  The students used the grading rubric and they had the opportunity to take their assignment home and do revisions based on their groups advice before the official grading by the teacher.

I can demonstrate comprehension of how to write a step-by-step procedure by writing a procedure for “How to brush your teeth”.

Language Objective
I can write to complete several revisions of my procedure of “How to brush your teeth”.

Today we continued to work on writing good procedures.  The students began by writing a procedure for “brushing your teeth”.  They then received a list of suggestions a a sample grading rubric for procedure writing and practiced in small groups.  The students are to now write a better version of their teeth brushing procedure for homework.

The students also received a list of Classroom Expectations and Procedures.

HOMEWORK – 1.  Write a final draft of “How to Brush Your Teeth”.

Today we began a “Name Art” activity.  The students use symbolism to represent their interests and backgrounds.  We also began to discuss how to write a procedure.
