Content Objective
Students will demonstrate knowledge of the differences in air temperature at different elevations by completing an activity with their cooperative learning groups after reading in their textbooks and watching a video clip.

E.EF.07.12 Compare and contrast the composition of the atmosphere at different elevations.

Language Objective
Students will write to compare the differences in air pressure and air temperature at different elevations by completing the following sentence frames.

“In our atmosphere, as altitude increases, air pressure decreases_.  This is because the further you get from the Earth’s surface, the less air molecules that will be pushing down on you.”
“In our atmosphere, as altitude increases, temperature decreases, then increases, then decreases, then increases. This is because different layers of gases at different altitudes absorb the suns energy and get warmer
