Friday, Sept. 28

Today in class the 8th graders took their equations quiz and worked on completing yesterday’s Evaluating Functions. Today’s new assignment is called, “Bike Ride” in GC about reading graphs. This and Evaluating Functions are due Monday.

*Late work policy: Monday at 2:15 is the last chance to turn in “Discovering Unit Rate Investigation”, and “Is It A Solution?”.

Today in class the 6th graders worked on solving real-world ratio and rate problems in their Ready Common Core books. Homework is to complete as much of the orange packet p. 23-26 as possible that most of us began in class. We will be checking it on Tuesday. Presentations begin Monday.

Thursday, Sept. 27

Today in class the 8th graders got their quizzes back and we discussed the test correction procedure, which is replacing retakes this year.  Test corrections can be made for one week, until NEXT Thursday at 2:15 pm. Today’s assignment is called, “Evaluating Functions” in google classroom where students are showing all work on a sheet of paper. This is due tomorrow. You have a quiz on solving equations tomorrow. It looks just like our most recent bellworks.

Today in class the 6th graders got one more day to perfect their slideshows before presenting tomorrow. We went over the grading rubric together. Then we began p. 20-25 in our Ready Common Core books. This is not homework.  For homework you should make sure bellwork IXL 6.X.2 is complete and all your slides contain 1-4 animations per slide.

Wednesday, Sept. 26

Today in class the 8th graders were assigned IXL A.Q.7 for bellwork on substitution. Then they continued working on their CER from yesterday on slope. The new assignment for today is called, “Is it a Solution?” on solutions to linear functions. Please complete this and/or the IXL at home if necessary.

Today in class the 6th graders were assigned IXL 6.I.8 for bellwork on comparing ratios. Then they continued to revise the Fizzy Juice CER.  We also completed our slideshows, their notecards, and practiced giving our speeches. Students will present their slideshow on Thursday or Friday

Today is the first meeting of Math Circles from 2:30-3:30 in room 189.

Tuesday, Sept. 25

Today in class the 8th graders worked in teams to solve multi-step equations to prepare for their next quiz.  Then they worked on the investigation called, “Good Morning”, about graphing unit rates. Please continue working on yesterday’s IXL A.J.7.

Today in class the 6th graders peer revised yesterday’s CER about ratios. Please complete your slideshow at home tonight so we can peer revise them in class tomorrow!

Monday, Sept. 24

Today in class the 8th graders took their quiz on function testing. Tonight’s IXL is A.J.7 on solving equations to prepare us or the next quiz. I have asked students not to begin a new IXL if Friday’s A.Q.5 & A.Q.3 are not complete.

Today in class the 6th graders completed Fizzy Juice by writing a CER paragraph to make a claim, provide evidence, and support it with mathematical reasoning. We also worked on our Ratios About Me Slideshows. Today’s IXL is 6.R.7 on unit rates.

Friday, Sept 21

Today in class the 8th graders prepared for Monday’s quiz (I didn’t give it today because so many kids were out yesterday) by identifying domain and range of functions.  They may study their green notes from Thursday’s class or practice the IXL A.Q.4 more. Then they began IXL A.Q.5 and A.Q.3 on the vertical line test and variables. These may be completed over the weekend.

Today in class the 6th graders continued their Ratios About Me slideshow. This is NOT homework. They are making notecards to help them with their presentation, which will occur sometime next week after a peer revision session. 3rd hour also did the assignment, “Baking Bread” that the other classes did Wednesday.  The IXL for tonight is 6.R.6 on equivalent ratios.

Thursday, Sept. 20

Today in class we took notes on the difference between functions and non-functions.  We will have a quiz on function testing tomorrow! Students may study the notes we took if they wish to.  Please make sure this week’s IXL A.Q.2 & A.Q.4 are complete. I will grade them tonight.

Today in class the 6th graders continued working on their slideshow. This is not homework and should be done in class.  Tonight’s IXL is 6.R.8 on equivalent ratios.

Wednesday, Sept. 19

Today was the last day of NWEA testing. The 8th graders have the IXL A.Q.4 on function testing to complete to 95%.

Today in class the 6th graders (hours 4 and 6 only) watched a short video on rates and took their own notes. Classwork is called, “Baking Bread”, in google classroom to practice making visual models to solve equivalent ratio/rate problems. You may complete this at home.

Today the 6th graders in 3rd hour were assigned one IXL to complete after NWEA testing, IXL 6.R.4 on equivalent ratios. They may need to finish this at home tonight.

Tuesday, Sept. 18

Today the 8th graders have one IXL A.Q.2 to complete. We did not have math class today but had time after NWEA testing to work. Please finish IXL A.Q.2 at home.

Today the 6th graders (hours 4 and 6 only) completed some pages in their Ready book on equivalent ratios and have IXL 6.R.4 on equivalent ratios to complete at home.  This can also be done at school after you finish tomorrow’s NWEA test. IXL 6.R.4 is due THURSDAY.
