U.S. History Chapter 23 Vocab: World War I

  1. Compete: to fight for the same thing
  2. trade market: places to sell and buy things­­­­
  3. colony: a country that is controlled by another country.
  4. independence: when a country is free from colonization
  5. alliances: a group of countries that are friendly with each other.
  6. unite: to bring together
  7. Empire:a country and all of its colonies
  8. rebellion: to go against the government
  9. tension: bad feelings; problems
  10. Emperor: the ruler of an empire
  11. wounded: hurt
  12. Rebel: a person who goes against the government.
  13. blame: put responsibility on someone
  14. chain reaction: events that are linked to each other
  15. assassinate: to kill a president or government worker
  16. Victory: Win
  17. Defeat: Loss
  18. Nation: country
  19. Militarism عسكرية – rapid growth of the military and weapons
  20. Trenches- خنادق defending a place by fighting from deep underground
  21. Imperialism استعمار- the practice of expanding a country by taking colonies
