3.1 Vocabulary

CHAPTER 3 already! Where is the time going?!

1. bank: the land near a river

2. Mesopotamia: the land between the Euphrates and Tigris Rivers

3. Tribe: a group of people who have similar culture and live together

4. dike: a long wall that keeps out the water

5. Canal: a man-made river used for irrigation and traveling

6. Military: army

7. temple: a place to worship

8. worship: pray

9. ziggurat: a pyramid with a temple inside of it

10. priest: a religious leader

11. citizen: a person who lives in a country legally

12. legal: lawful

13. illegal: not lawful or against the law

14. obey: to listen to what someone tells you to do

15. disobey: the opposite of obey

16. expensive: costs a lot of money

17. monotheistic: believing in only one god

18. polytheistic: believing in many gods

19. atheistic: not believing in god

20. crop: food that you grow in a farm

21. statue: a building to symbolize a person or god

22. symbol: something that stands for something else

23. sacrifice: to give a gift to a god

24. cuneiform: the written language of Sumerians

25.Invention: something that is made for the first time
