April 13 to 17
Good Morning 4th Grade Families! I hope everyone had a safe Spring Break! As all of you know, school will be closed for the remainder of the year. This does not stop us from learning, though! I have worked to come up with activities that students can work on throughout the week. We will be keeping the format the same, but some activities have been replaced with new ones. Please read the following below for the weekly homework and announcements.
Math:
Zearn: We will continue our work with Fractions. Students should be on Zearn at least three days a week to complete three lessons by Friday.
Khan Academy: We will start our work with Geometry. Students should be on Khan Academy at least two days a week to complete two lessons by Friday.
iLearn: Each week we will focus on a different fact for our Fluency Practice. This week will be multiplication.
Reading:
Reading Letters: We will continue with a letter a week. Letters are due on Wednesdays. This will give me time to read all of the letters and respond. Please make sure students are reading my response to them, copy what I wrote, and paste it into their new letter each week.
Any question I ask should be answered at the start of the letter. Then paragraph one is a 5 sentence summary. This week I am assigning the topic for paragraph 2. There is a Brain Pop video linked in the assignment about Genres. In paragraph 2 students will tell me the genre of the book they are reading and prove it using evidence from their reading. The topic for paragraph 3 can be chosen from the list in the assignment.
Read Works: Two articles a week, answer quiz questions. Due Friday.
Newsela: One article a week, answer quiz questions. Due Friday.
Writing:
Writing Prompt: This week there is a writing prompt. Please make sure the doc is created in Google Classroom and turned in. I look forward to reading what students write!
Spelling and Word Work:
This will continue with 4 parts and be due on Thursdays. Please pace yourself, consider doing one activity a day. Directions are in Google Classroom. A scoring rubric is attached.
Science on Tuesday and Thursday:
A Mystery Science lesson will be posted and due on Tuesday and then a second lesson will be posted and due on Thursday. This will be put on Google Classroom with the link to open the lesson and the directions for what each student has to do for that activity.
Social Studies on Wednesday:
There will be a lesson posted each Monday for Social Studies on Google Classroom. The links and the directions will be on the assignment. Due Wednesday.
Specials Classes
Please be sure to keep up with specials teachers, checking their blogs and Google Classrooms for updates and assignments.
You should be connected with Mr. Cares, Mrs. Flemming, Mrs. Webber, Mrs. Waidmann, and Mrs. Johnston. If you need help connecting with anyone, please let me know.
Classroom Chats Tuedsays & Fridays
We will continue with our chats at 11:00 AM. I enjoy seeing the kids and hearing what they’ve been up to. I know they enjoy seeing each other as well. It is so important to stay connected right now. I included the link for our classroom chat on the homepage of my Google Classroom.
Kahoot!
I will post 2 at the beginning of the week that will end on Tuesday at noon. Then I will post 2 more that will be due Thursday at noon. The kids are having fun with these. Some will connect to the curriculum we are covering and some will just be for fun.
