Class will finish our study of the Indian Wars from Little Big Horn to Wounded Knee. We will then discuss the creation of the Populist Party, the joining of farmers, the creation of monopolies, and the formation of labor unions.

Wk. of May 29,’17
Students will spend this short week with the study of the Plains Indians and the ‘Boom’ towns of the west, sections 1 & 2 of
chapter 19.
Wk. of May 22, 2017
Students will begin the study of the Reconstruction Period that followed the Civil War. We will focus on the differences between the moderate and radical plans, the impeachment trial of President Johnson, and the election of U.S. Grant.
Week of 5/15/’17
Students will continue chapter 15 and focus on The Arts. We will discuss the poets,authors, and painters that begin to develop a unique American style. Friday’s quiz will cover sections 4 & 5.
Week of May 8, 2017
We will be discussing the American Reform movement of the mid 1800s. Students will cover section 1,2,&3 of chapter 15. Quiz on Friday will be given covering “Women’s rights, Abolition, the Second Great Awakening, Temperance, Prison and mental health, and Education Reform”.
Wk. of 5/1/’17
As we enter the final week of the 5th. card-marking, we will begin the study of the Social Reform Movements of the mid 1800s including, labor, education, women’s suffrage, mental health care, and prison reform. Chapter #15.
Wk. of 4/24/’17
Students will be taking the M-Step on Monday and Tuesday.
Wed. and Thurs. will be for review of Slavery and the Civil War for their quiz on Friday.
Opportunity for extra credit with the recitation of the Gettysburg Address will be Friday before the quiz.
Wk. of April 17, 2017
Students will continue to prepare for the M-step by discussing the issues that brought about the American Civil War. We will finish the topic of slavery and discuss States’ Rights, economic issues, and prominent figures of the war. Decade project ‘Fashion’ will be collected on Friday, April 21st.
Wk. of 4/10/’17
After a restful spring break, we will begin the study of how northern and southern life styles in America begin to take on significant differences. Students will begin Chapter 14 with discussion and readings about several inventions in communication, industry, agriculture, and transportation.
Students will also begin M-Step testing which will last approximately two weeks.
Week of 3/20/17
Chapter 13
5th. card-marking will begin with students discussing the election of James K. Polk,
the Blood-spot Resolution, Manifest Destiny, and the U.S. declaring war with Mexico.
We will also review the requirements for the Decade essay-‘Inventions’.
