Continue viewing the slides given for Chapter 14 during the week of March 13-20. Focus on slides 10-14 showing the effects of the cotton gin and its impact on cotton production, the expansion of slavery, the desire for more land, and the growing dependence of the southern economy on the textile mills of the north. Notice the social class structure of the south and the development of an upper class known as the “cottonocracy”.
