In regards to the leadership speeches….Aya came home crying and very upset I helped her time this and helped her practice reading her speech aloud. She has tried for this position since 3rd grade and every year it seems the same student wins.I think this should be re evaluated and everyone should be given a chance and they should be chosen based on there speech not popularity. I was very confident in ayas speech and feel she needs to be re evaluated
Hi Mrs. Itawi, I do understand that Aya was upset that she did not get the position. I did not choose the person who would be on the Lighthouse Committee. I had the class vote with private ballots, as did the other 5th grade class and the 4th grade classes. I actually have the votes in my desk drawer. Each of the students was given a chance to say their speech. We had four people and they all gave great speeches. I then let the students vote. Each of the four students would make a great representative for our class. As far as changing the outcome, I don’t know how I could have the class revote or overrule their vote without being unfair to the other students who gave speeches. Please encourage Aya to try for other leadership roles as they come up throughout the year.
