Remember that on any given day your fifth grader should be able to tell you what we did in school. The planner is a good reminder for them to help with this narrative. The planner should be signed by a parent or guardian every day.

Math– We will continue our work with material from Unit 1. Below please find the CCSS that will be tested on this assessment.
Students will receive a review for the test on 9/15. The test will be given on 9/21.
5.OA.A.2: Write simple expressions that record calculations with numbers, and interpret numerical expressions without evaluating them. For example express the calculations “add 8 and 7, then multiply by 2” as 2 x (8 + 7). Recognize that 3 x (18932 + 921), without having to calculate the indicated sum or product.
4.OA.B.4: Find all factor pairs for a whole number in the range 1-100. Recognize that a whole number is a multiple of each of its factors. Determine whether a given whole number in the range 1-100 is a multiple of a given one-digit number. Determine whether a given whole number in a range 1-100 is prime or composite.
(This is a 4th grade CCSS that is reviewed and will be assessed.)
Social Studies- We continue our review of the Federal Government. The District Common Assessment of this unit will be given on 9/22. Students will receive the unit review on 9/12.
The important questions the students will be able to answer after this unit are: Why is the federal government organized to give and to limit power? Why do we have both state and federal governments? How are core democratic values and constitutional principles reflected in our government? How is our government organized to give and to limit power?
Science-We will begin our unit on the properties of matter. The unit will span over the rest of the marking period.
Writing– We will be writing personal narratives from pre-writing to publishing over the next two weeks.
Reading-
*Fiction-We will begin a genre study of historical fiction while we continue to develop our Daily 5 routine.
*Non-fiction- We will begin working on the skill of identifying the central/main idea in a non-fiction piece.
Grammar – We will be doing a review of the different parts of speech.
