Basketball

Dearborn Public Schools middle school students are required to master several skills that will help them play at grade level in a basketball game situation.  These skills include the hand dribble (ball handling and maneuvering about the court), bounce pass, chest pass, overhead pass, one-hand set shot, and the lay up (both sides of the net).  Our students also need to know the rules of the game, especially remembering that the game is a non-contact sport.  Some of the terminology that my students have learned and applied are out of bounds, in bounds, foul, double dribble, travel, and free throw.  Unis girls practiced their skills while playing lead up games including H-O-R-S-E, Around the World, Lightening, and 21.  We just finished the basketball tournament the day we left for Christmas Break, so look for the pictures of the winners on the Wall of Champions after we come back from break.  Meanwhile, enjoy these pictures from this basketball unit.
