Español I

This week in Spanish 1, students reviewed on Thursday for their final exam with a vocabulary and grammar Kahoot for the entire second semester. Afterwards students took a class survey on the second semester. On Friday, students learned about the format of the final exam and began a practice exam in class. They will continue with the final exam practice on Monday and is not homework.

This week in Spanish 2, students reviewed on Thursday for their final exam with a vocabulary and grammar Kahoot for the entire second semester. Afterwards students took a class survey on the second semester. On Friday, students learned about the format of the final exam and began a practice exam in class. Recap of May 27 to May 31

Español I

Last week in Spanish 1, students began their work organizing their approach to a couple practice conversations in preparation of their interpersonal quiz: a conversation. Then students engaged in conversations with a partner practicing each situation and ended the day Wednesday beginning the movie they would watch later in the week. On Thursday and Friday, students had their interpersonal quizzes while watching the movie Roma, which documents what many middle class families in Mexico experienced in the 1970s, based roughly on the life of director Alfonso Cuarón.

Español II

Last week in Spanish 2, students began their work organizing their approach to a couple practice conversations in preparation of their interpersonal quiz: a conversation. Then students engaged in conversations with a partner practicing each situation and ended the day Wednesday beginning the movie they would watch later in the week. On Thursday and Friday, students had their interpersonal quizzes while watching the movie The Way. The movie tells the fictional story of four characters who embark together on the Camino de Santiago, an ancient pilgrimage in Northern Spain, who are all traveling the “Way” for different reasons.

Recap of May 20 to May 24

Español I

Last week in Spanish 1, students began the week on Monday by reviewing for their quiz with a grammar Kahoot and a vocabulary game with partners. Students took a look at a house in Spain and an apartment in Mexico on Tuesday and compared and contrasted between the two and also between houses/apartments in the US. On Wednesday students took their vocab/grammar and interpretive quiz. On Thursday students started to review semester vocabulary in preparation for a conversational quiz next week and also for their final semester 2 exam in a couple of weeks.

Español II

Last week in Spanish 2, students began the week on Monday by reviewing for their quiz with a grammar Kahoot and a vocabulary game with partners. Students practiced their interpretive skills by taking a look at some of the best places to ski in Chile and Argentina on Tuesday. On Wednesday students took their vocab/grammar and interpretive quiz. On Thursday students started to review semester vocabulary in preparation for a conversational quiz next week and also for their final semester 2 exam in a couple of weeks.

Recap of May 13 to May 17

Español I

This week in Spanish 1, students started the week with a Buscapersonas activity talking with looking for other students that fulfilled certain criteria related to C. 5.1 vocabulary. Students then watched a short video from Spain called La familia digital and discussed family and technology. Students also interpreted information from an infographic on Mexican families today and compared and contrasted them to families in the United States. Students then began an activity with their C. 5.2 vocabulary that had to do with finding a dream future house in Spain and describing it. On Friday, students did a Pizarritas activity for additional grammar practice for all of C.5 in preparation for their vocab/grammar quiz coming up next week on Wednesday.

Español II

This week in Spanish 2, students started the week by finishing the video on places to see and what to do in Quito, Ecuador. Students then wrote a letter about what they “did” in Quito relating to places and activities that they liked. On Tuesday this activity was reviewed in depth and students talked about trips to Chile and Peru in the preterite past tense. Students then watched a couple of videos promoting travel to Spain and Guatemala and they began an activity with their C. 10 vocabulary that had to do with trips that they “took” to Spain and Latin America with a classmate. On Friday, students did a Pizarritas activity for additional grammar practice for all of C.10 in preparation for their vocab/grammar quiz coming up next week on Wednesday.

Recap of May 6 to May 10

Español I

This past week in Spanish 1, students were introduced to the new Chapter 5.1 vocabulary and then put together a small family tree incorporating vocabulary terms. Students on Wednesday then had conversations in Spanish related to their families. On Thursday and Friday students learned about where last names come from and searched up their own last names to see where they are from and what they mean. Students finished Friday with a conversational vocab game.

Español II

This past week in Spanish 2, students were introduced to the new Chapter 10.1 vocabulary and then put into words their experience with their favorite vacation. Students on Wednesday then had conversations in Spanish related to their favorite vacations. On Thursday and Friday students learned about the most popular places to travel in the world including the top five in Latin America. Students finished Friday beginning a video of places to see and activities to do in Quito, the capital of Ecuador.

Recap of April 29 to May 3

Español I

Last week in Spanish 1, students practiced 4.2 vocabulary and 4.2 present tense verb forms before their vocab and grammar quiz on Wednesday. On Thursday were introduced to their new warm-up partners and began an introduction of Chapter 5 vocabulary, the last unit. On Friday students played a game called Asiento caliente, or hot seat, where students ask one student on the “hot seat” questions in Spanish to learn more about him/her. On Friday, students also watched an episode of the tv show Extra.

Recap of April 22 to April 26

Español I

Last week in Spanish 1, students watched a video that documented the lengthy journey to school that some kids in Patagonia have to take, students compared and contrasted how and how long their commute to school is in Dearborn. On Wednesday and Thursday, students created the circunloquios, or brief definitions in Spanish for vocabulary terms. Students will then use these circunloquios in Quizlet Live games and can study the circunloquios on the class Quizlet page. On Friday, students put together their own libritos, or small books, that practiced their vocabulary and the present tense of specific 4.2 vocabulary words, that will be on their vocabulary/grammar quiz this upcoming Wednesday.

Español II

Last week in Spanish 2, students continued their activities with Quinceañeras including navigating an authentic website in Spanish. On Thursday, students practiced with digital whiteboards their current grammar topic: the present progressive and played a vocabulary Kahoot. Then on Friday, students put together their own libritos, or small books, that practiced their vocabulary and the present progressive tense, that will be on their vocabulary/grammar quiz this upcoming Wednesday.

Recap of April 15 to April 18

Español I

This past week in Spanish 1, students continued practice of describing vocabulary words in Spanish through circunloquios or brief definitions. Students then analyzed an article of a photo of a homeless child doing his homework late at night outside a McDonald’s. Students played piccionario with current vocabulary and then began reading a brief article with ten of the most spectacular places in Patagonia in preparation of a video that documents students’ lengthy journey to school in Patagonia.

Español II

This past week in Spanish 2, students began the week with new 9.2 vocabulary and finished their partner project. On Tuesday, students practiced their vocabulary through circunloquios or brief definitions in Spanish, playing a game Wednesday with their circunloquios called Palabra secreta. Students listened to the song Bailando and learned about the grammatical tense in that song called the present progressive. Students then practiced that tense in the context of learning about Quinceañeras on Thursday.

Español I

This past week in Spanish 1, students finished the movie Zipi y Zape in class. After standardized testing days on Tuesday and Wednesday, students began the new 4.2 vocabulary and on Friday practiced describing vocabulary words in Spanish through circunloquios or brief definitions.

Español II

This past week in Spanish 2, students finished the movie Eva in class. After standardized testing days on Tuesday and Wednesday, students then read an article related to the idea of the movie, discussing the idea of an ethical code between humans and robots. Students then began a partner activity putting their own opinion on the matter.

Español I

This past week in Spanish 1, students had time in class to work on presentations about their typical date in school. Then on Wednesday and Thursday, students gave these presentations. Afterwards students listened to a couple more songs in the Música de marzo and began a movie called Zipi y Zape in class on Friday. Students have no homework over break.

Español II

This past week in Spanish 2, students had time in class to work on presentations about their favorite holiday from 2018. Then on Wednesday and Thursday, students gave these presentations. Afterwards students listened to a couple more songs in the Música de marzo and began a movie called Eva in class on Friday. Students have no homework over break.
