Español I

This week in Spanish 1, students took part in a couple new semester activities with various students in different classes at the beginning of the semester. At the end of the week, students review the chapter three vocabulary and began learning the present tense on Friday.

This week in Spanish 2, students took part in a couple new semester activities with various students in different classes at the beginning of the semester. At the end of the week, students review the chapter three vocabulary and began learning the “preterite” past tense on Friday.

Recap of January 13 to January 17

Español I

This week in Spanish 1, students finished the episode of the Ministry of Time and discussed the video shortly afterwards. The remainder of the time on Monday as well as on Tuesday, students played a few games to review for the final exam. On Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday students had their final exams for the first semester.

The remainder of the time on Monday as well as on Tuesday, students played a few games to review for the final exam. On Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday students had their final exams for the first semester.

Recap of January 6 to January 10

Español I

This week in Spanish 1, students began preparing for their final semester exam. Students were given a review packet with a practice exam and resources in preparation for the exam. Students completed the practice exam concentrating on one chapter a day. Students review chapter 1 on Monday, chapter 2 on Tuesday, chapter 3 on Wednesday, followed by a review of the entire semester on Thursday. On Friday, students took a small break from the review break by beginning an episode of the Ministry of Time, a Spanish tv show that highlights different parts of Spain’s history and culture. Exams begin next week on Wednesday.

Recap of December 16 to December 20

Español I

Last week in Spanish 1, students planned and presented their “vacations” in Yucatan, Mexico, while also reading about twenty different things to do in Yucatan’s capital, Merida. On Thursday, students took their vocab/grammar quizzes and on Friday students watched an episode of a Spanish tv show and had a more relaxed day before break. There is no homework for students over break.

Español II

Last week in Spanish 2, students watched/listened to some authentic commercials relating to clothes. Afterwards students began a mini-project with in a small group creating their own commercial for a clothes’ store, which they listened to in class on Wednesday. On Thursday, students took their vocab quizz and on Friday students watched an episode of a Spanish tv show and had a more relaxed day before break. There is no homework for students over break.

Recap of December 9 to December 13

Español I

This week in Spanish 1, students were introduced to new vocabulary and played a few different vocab games on Monday and Tuesday. On Wednesday, students took a look at popular sports in the world, including looking at news videos of current issues related to sports in both the United States, and Cuba, where baseball is becoming less popular because of its higher prices compared to other sports. Later in the week, students played a game in Spanish looking for different people that wanted to do different activities over winter break. On Friday, students began to learn about Mérida, a city in Mexico that they will work with next week, and played another vocab game, preparing them for their vocab quiz next Thursday.

Español II

This week in Spanish 2, students were introduced to new vocabulary and played a few different vocab games on Monday and Tuesday. Later in the week, students played a game in Spanish looking for people wearing different clothing items. On Thursday, students took a look at how look Spaniards take during certain activities related to shopping, and on Friday, students watched a couple videos related to saving money and played another vocab game, preparing them for their vocab quiz next Thursday.

Español I

This week in Spanish 1, students practiced conversational skills through various activities and on Thursday and Friday took their chapter 2 interpersonal assessment, a conversation, and watched an Argentine animated film called Metegol.

Español II

This week in Spanish 2, students practiced conversational skills through various activities and on Thursday and Friday took their chapter 2 interpersonal assessment, a conversation, and watched the movie Diarios de motocicleta.

This week in Spanish 1, students practiced the verb gustar and presented their libritos to the class on Monday. On Tuesday, students took their interpretive and gustar quiz. Students have no homework for their break.

This week in Spanish 2, students read an infographic on how cellphone usage can have an impact on health on Monday. On Tuesday, students took their interpretive and mandatos negativos quiz. Students have no homework for their break.

Recap of November 18 to November 22

Español I

This week in Spanish 1, students learned to use the verbs gustar and encantar. Students learned to talk about what they like and really like and watched a couple videos of native speakers doing the same. Later on in the week, students read an infographic on music in Latin America and Mexico transitioning into a short video on the rise of Latin music in the United States. On Thursday and Friday, students worked on a short book of their likes and dislikes with current unit vocabulary.

Español II

This week in Spanish 2, students at the beginning of the week learned to use negative commands and read an authentic article on how to be healthy to keep your weight in check. Later in the week, students began working on a mini-poster with a partner choosing a health topic important to them, and using positive and negative commands to give advice on this health topic for the poster. On Friday students also watched a short video about the level of happiness in Nicaragua despite many problems in the country.

Español I

Last week in Spanish 1, students presented on a favorite movie in Spanish with a partner practicing unit vocabulary. On Wednesday and Thursday after the snow day, students practiced vocabulary for their vocabulary and grammar quiz on Friday.

Español II

Last week in Spanish 2, students played a couple of games with the circunloquios or definitions they made the week before. On Wednesday and Thursday after the snow day, students practiced vocabulary with a game and a couple activities for their vocabulary and grammar quiz on Friday.

Recap of November 4 to November 8

Español I

This week in Spanish 1, students practiced their vocabulary in the context of a few activities. Students watched trailers of Spanish movies to identify the genre of the movies, read a short article on the preferred genres of movies in Spain, watched a short video on a movie billboard from Perú, and worked on a mini-presentation with a partner about their favorite movie that they will present on Monday.

Español II

This week in Spanish 2, students practiced vocabulary by watching a short video of a woman’s daily routine in Spain. Students listened to some authentic commercials for health/beauty products and then took a look at a few advertisements for medicine in Spanish-speaking countries. On Friday, students learned about body parts and worked with a partner to write circunloquios, or definitions for vocabulary words.
