Good Monday Morning!

Please ALL seniors should apply for this scholarship. Mr. Gostenik was the Auto Shop Teacher at Dearborn High. He passed away recently and set up this scholarship. If you know any of my other seniors that are not in my class this semester, please let them know.

All classes use the above link to take you to this weeks first assignment (there will be two this week). Watch the video entitled “Small Block Chevy Build: Stage One”. Write a Three paragraph review but make sure to answer or elaborate on the following questions;

  1. What type of engine did they use (make, number of cylinders, engine size or displacement)?
  2. What was the basic procedure they used for checking main bearing clearance? (the clearance between the crank journals and main bearings)
  3. How did they install the pistons on the rods? What tools did they use?
  4. How much horsepower and torque did the engine make on the final Dyno pull and at what RPM? What was the total investment?

While those numbers don’t seem huge, I can assure you this engine would put a big smile on your face in a street car because it makes good torque over a broad RPM range. That means when you give it the gas pedal the engine will respond and the car will accelerate instantly as opposed to some engines where they have to spin up to start making power.

Enjoy the show!
