NWEA & Second Pick-Up Supplies

Hello parents and students,

A few updates,

1. Tomorrow (Thursday 9-24), we will take the NWEA Math at 9:00. Your child can use their notebooks use as scratch papers. Calculators are NOT allowed. Please remember to have them do this test on their own because this allows me to better plan for the year. You can’t read for them either.

I will have the same testing format as the reading, each child will be in their own breakout room. I will join from one room to another. We might take all morning to test which is fine. If your child finishes early they can read and/or work on late assignments on schoology.

2. On Friday (9-25), there will be a second pass out of materials that you need to pick up. It will be based on grade level.  The schedule for supply pick up as follows:

5th – 9-10

4th 10-11

3rd 11-12

2nd- 12-1

1st 1-2

KDG 2-3

Please make sure to come at the correct time for the materials. We understand you may have to come multiple times if you have multiple kids, but we are trying to avoid the 2 hour wait that happened during Chromebook Pick up. Please only ask for the specific grade materials when you come.

If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me.

Important Info. 9-14-20

Hello parents and students,

From 1:00-1:55 student should be working on music assignments found under the music course.

From 1:55-3:50 students are workin independent on assignments that are due daily. The folder will close at midnight and they can’t submit assignments.

Under the week 3 folder, there are directions for Monday. Make sure your child completes the assignment. Please do not type for them or do the work, this will not help their brain grow, trust me!

If you need help to submit assignment or upload a photo on chromebook, watch the video found under the How To folder. We watched them during our live session but some students may want to rewatch them.

I am meeting students in groups to help them further. They will be live with me for 20 minutes using the same Zoom link for am/pm.

Group 1- 2:00-2:20

Jamil, Hawra, Ali. B, Moussa, Mohammed, Alex, Kylie

Eureka Math.

We made it!!! First FULL Week

Happy Saturday!

We have officially completed our first week of virtual learning and I’ve learned so much in the process. I am so proud of the students and how well they are adapting to this. And, thank you parents for being their support and cheering us all on.

In reflecting on this past week, I just wanted to update you with some information that I think is helpful to everyone. There is a lot here so I apologize in advance.

Specials (1:00 – 1:54): The school is still working on special schedules so thank you for being patient. As soon as they are confirmed, I will share a schedule with you. In the meantime, I’ll let students know which special they are supposed to complete.

Here are the special teachers email address:

Music- Ms. Green: greenc@dearbornschools.org

Gym- Ms. Webb: webbl@dearbornschools.org

Media- Mrs. Ackerman: ackermm@dearbornschools.org

Art- Ms. Durant: durants@dearbornschools.org

Supplies: Starting Monday, all students will be expected to have the following supplies with them:-whiteboard/marker OR notebook/pencil, books for independent reading, and Eureka Math books.

I am recommending students have a whiteboard/whiteboard marker and headphones. They are not required but I am finding students are finding these easier to have and less distracted.  Whiteboards are sold at dollar tree for $1.

Student Expectations:

We have been reviewing expectations everyday. Here are some that students are need to continue working on.

Please help by reminding them at home, as well and will cause less distraction than me calling their name in front of the class:

1. Stay on mute. Raise your hand if you’d like to share.

2. Only respond appropriately in the chat room.

3. Have your supplies first thing in the morning.

4. Use the restroom in the morning before class and during breaks, if possible.

5. Stay in front of the camera. Do not place items in front of the camera.

6. Find a comfortable place to work and stay there. Do not walk around with your device.

7. Work on Schoology assignments and specials after they log off of Zoom at 1:00. Assignments will be due that day by midnight. The folder will close after that.

Important Information:

1. Please help your child find an appropriate place to work. Laying in bed is not conducive to a good learning environment.

2. Please make sure students are logging in at 8:55. In the morning we will be doing morning work, or listening to calming music and I will be sharing my screen. Being on time, will avoid distractions and getting off task.

3. Please make sure students are working in Schoology during the 1:00 – 3:50 time frame. Once they are off Zoom with me at 1:00 they are not done with school. They still have 3 hours to complete independent work that is assigned to them. Assignments will be due by the end of the day since they have 3 hours to work on it.

I know that this is a lot of information and I appreciate you reading through all of this. If you have any questions please feel free to reach out. We are all learning what is best for the kiddos and I truly appreciate all your support and patience.  Have a great weekend!

Go to Schoology to See New Video

Hello parents,

Go to schoology—> go to my course—->click on materials—> Click classroom information Folder—-> Click link for Video on Schoology Features

Hope this helps!

9-10-20 updates

Hello Parents,

Hopefully it’s getting easier to log-in on Zoom and navigate through schoology.  Please make sure to check schoology multiple times a day. Also, please make sure your child has their video on and on mute unless called on. This minimizes the distractions during our live session. If your child is not following the rules after multiple warnings, they will be removed from the session.

I just logged in using a student account and went to the technology (Media) course; unfortunately it doesn’t look like Mrs. Ackerman’s assignments are available. Remember if you have questions about the specials courses, you need to ask that specific teacher.

Please have students work on the discussion questions, read on RAZ kids and skip counting instead. The discussions are listed under classwork in the Wednesday and Thursday folder.

Make sure your child is reading every day. Please have them read any books you have available at home, or login to their Raz-kids accounts.

Tomorrow the All About Me Bags are due. Your child will share with the class their items. They can decorate the bags if they want.

Tomorrow at 2:30 I will have a zoom meeting to help students navigate on schoology and have them get more familiar with those that need additional help but anyone is welcome 🙂

All About Me Bags

                           All About Me Bag Project

Dear Families,

It is important for students to feel safe and comfortable in their learning environment. As a community of learners, we will engage in a variety of “getting to know you” activities within the classroom. Children should find a paper bag in their home and then decorate this bag to represent who they
are. Materials to decorate may include (but are not limited to): markers, crayons, colored pencils, stickers, sparkles, foam pieces, etc.

Inside the paper bag, students should place 3-5 objects which also represent who they are. Please note that if the object seems too large for the bag, you may want to choose a different item!

All third-grade students will share the contents of their bags on Friday, September 11th.

Students should have their bag ready to share on zoom by
Friday, September 11 th.

If you have any questions regarding our first classroom project, please feel free to contact me.

Keep Smiling!

Reminders

Hello parents,

Just a friendly reminder that you and your child are checking Schoology multiple times a day during the 8:55-3:50 school time.

Any meetings or assignments for students will be on schoology, not the blog. I do have a few students that are new or don’t have Chromebooks yet and can’t log onto schoology. So I will send the zoom meeting link to those parents only via email until the chromebook issue is resolved. The school ran out of chromebooks and waiting for more to come in.

I can’t post the STUDENT zoom meeting on the blog since the public can see it.

Also, if you did not pick up your child’s 3rd grade supplies, please call the office for the next pick up. We will hopefully start using the mathbooks next week or the week after that.

If you have any questions, please let me know.
