Mental Health and Coping Skills

Children respond to stressful times differently, and often will react based on what they are seeing in the environment around them. It is important to teach children appropriate coping skills and to not increase fear and panic surrounding stressful and difficult times. Social stories may be used to teach children about difficult times in a lighter way, please see link below regarding social stories. Families can choose what information to share with their children regarding stressful times, just keep in mind children will respond to stressful situations differently. Encourage and try to stick to a normal routine, limit screen time and media regarding stressful situation coverage, encourage movement through play, and ensure children are getting enough rest.
