It’s a new week with things changing all the time. It is so important that you maintain a ‘new’ normal of routine as possible. Despite the mixed messages of work counting it should count for you to be accountable to yourself and keep your mind active.
Today’s Assignment:
You have a simple task today: Ask the person who does the majority of the cooking this question: what are the 10 most important items in your pantry (dry goods) for your household?
Oh and I’m not talking about toilet paper, I am talking about food!
Create the list and put it in the classwork section of your binder.
No need to take a picture or share it at THIS time just keep it safe.
Hello- I hope you are continuing to make good choices: social distance, hand wash, helping out at home, be kind to each other and doing some school work. Remember, I’m counting on you. If you find yourself needing a break from all of this work, do something productive and healthy walking, yoga, cooking, or listening to uplifting music. Above is also a resource that is available to you and your family if needed.
Dealing with stress and anxiety
We know the outbreak of COVID-19 can be stressful and cause fear and anxiety for people. These feelings during an infectious disease outbreak are normal and common. But there are things you can do to support yourself, friends and family members. By working together, you can cope with the stress which will make you and your loved ones stronger.
Stress during an infectious disease outbreak can include
Fear & worry about your own health and the health of your loved ones.
Changes in sleep or eating patterns.
Difficulty sleep or concentrating.
Changes in mood and coping skills.
Things you can do to support yourself
Take breaks from watching, reading, or listening to news stories, including social media. Repeatedly hearing about the pandemic can be upsetting.
Take care of your body. Take deep breaths, stretch and/or meditate. Try to eat healthy, and maintain a daily routine.
Other suggestions include:
Practice relaxation techniques.
Reach out to the DHS school social workers by email to set up a time to talk (Lisa Cunningham, Lauren Rouff, Stacy Rumler) or call the Dearborn Schools Social Emotional Support line at, 313-827-8500. In crisis/distress you can also call or text at: 1-800-273-8255/Text ‘Talk’ to 741741
Journal, listen to music, make art, and/or read. Do something you enjoy or have not had time for.
Take a walk or run while maintaining safe distances from others.
If you have come across a great resource please share it.
You can subscribe to DHS announcements as well as the DPS you tube
Good Morning! or in your case Good Afternoon! Please be sure to check my blog, your email, and this google classroom daily! I also hope you are doing it for your other hours as well. Also, If you know others in my classes could you please send out a quick note to make sure they are joining in, in the fun (wink, wink). I miss you all!! Yes even _.
Washing your hands is so important now that ever! Just think back to the beginning of class when I started saying, “hair up, aprons on, ‘wash your hands’…”
Today I want you to watch and maybe do?
Maybe try the the science experiment…and read what the CDC has to say about hand-washing
A parent in my neighborhood created an activity for kids to do today which is to walk around and find as many shamrocks as you can. I am sure she has other parts to her game but this is not my point. You may be thinking I’m too old to play such a game, but if you get bored you could do it just to get out of the house, or take a younger sibling outside to do shamrock hunt. You have to exercise your mind and body!
Create a schedule! Get up at the same time everyday. Eat breakfast, lunch, snack, and dinner. Go to “school” for a couple of hours. Workout. Find a good book to read and read for an hour (do you know about overdrive?). Go back to “school” for an hour or more. We have to give ourselves structure!
As you know all of your teachers will be engaging in online instruction for the next few weeks. Be sure you and your friends are checking emails and such!
I will post all assignments on my iblog and google classroom. I will use iblog for reminders and extra resources in case you want to learn more.
Please reach out to your classmates and make sure that they have checked their emails. Check in with GOOGLE CLASSROOM for assignments. I plan to have you turn in 2 assignments weekly. Daily, I will give you an assignment which can simply do with a little brain power and awareness
Today’s Assignment: On a SSOP. Remember to title and date it. 1) Identify 5 common Irish recipes/dishes (no you do not have to write down 5 recipes). Write down the TITLE of the recipe– Read through them note the Ingredients and Directions. 2) What are 3 commonly used ingredients when it comes to Irish cookery?
3) When you are finished put it in the classwork section of your binder. If you forgot, lost, or don’t have a binder NOW is the time to do it!
Feel free to email me if you have any problems or questions. I will be online daily until 3:15 if you need help with my class or any tech issues for any of your classes.
I hope this finds you healthy and safe. I am attempting to reach each of you so that we can stay in touch and do a few activities each week while we are away from each other. How we will keep in touch with each other will be:
1-email andersd@dearbornschool.org
2-blog iblog.dearbornschools.org/anderson/
3-google classroom
Please email me with any questions you may have. Do not email me through the blog as it tends to be unreliable. My blog link is: iblog.dearbornschools.org/anderson/
and if it does not work just search- Dana Anderson
Your google class code is in your email. It is different for each class so use your class code and not someone else’s so that you get credit. It is my understanding that you need to be logged into your gmail account while using your google classroom. Also, your parents can not join the class, only you, because you are a registered user.
I am not the best at technology but I will be trying I also hope that you will too!
During the school closure all students enrolled in my classes will receive and complete assignments posted to google classroom. I will be sending a classroom code based on the hour/class you attend. Please be patient this will not be operational until next week.
