Halloween, Wednesday October 31st!

Wednesday, October 31st is our annual Halloween Parade starting at 2:30pm.  Students may wear costumes, but no masks.  After the parade students will pass out candy to friends in the classroom.  Please feel free to bring in treats for this special occasion!

On Wednesday, October 31st, students will be allowed to bring costumes to school.  Students will not be able to wear their costumes during the morning, but may put them on in the afternoon prior to our Halloween Parade at 2:30 PM.  Weather permitting, we will walk around the neighborhood of the school during the parade and then have time for class parties.  Parents are welcome to participate in the parade around the neighborhood, but must check into the office first in order to obtain a visitor’s pass. If it rains the parade will be around the inside of the school.

Notes about costumes:

PLEASE DO NOT WEAR COSTUMES TO SCHOOL. Instead, bring your labeled costume in a bag, with your student’s name on it.  Students will be able to change into their costumes in the afternoon. Students may NOT dress up as anything that contains inappropriate, bloody looking, or would be considered scary for younger students who may be frightened by these costumes due to images they may have seen in the media. Weapons or toys that resemble weapons are NOT permitted. Most classrooms will have their parties at 2:50 – 3:20.

Eureka Math

Dear Parents,

Attached is your child’s mid-module assessment. The Dearborn Public Schools District has implemented a new math program called Eureka Math. Last year, the second grade teachers at River Oaks piloted Eureka Math. We recognize the importance of supporting parents during Eureka Math implementation. As you notice, the test consists of multi-step story problems, short answers/explanation of their thinking, and application versus multiple choice.

We know that most parents didn’t learn math the way their children are learning it today, so we understand that you will have questions and concerns. Every night your child brings home the homework and homework helper. The homework helper is a great resource to use because it shows examples for the lesson. We highly recommend saving the homework helpers for future use.

As any new program, it will take some time for students to adjust. As teachers, we are working hard to teach and support our students through this exciting journey.

Please look at the mistakes with your child, sign and return the test.

Thank you,

3rd Grade Team 🙂
