ELA Novel Study: A Hero’s Journey

Hello Hornets!

Our last unit for the year is a novel study! We will begin reading The Outsiders written by S.E. Hinton next week. This week we will learn some background information about the novel and author. Many students enjoy reading The Outsiders because the novel deals with the changes youth experience during adolescence. Students will demonstrate an understanding by reading/listening to the audio of The Outsiders and completing comprehension questions, quizzes, journal entries, and other activities. All assignments will be posted on Google Classroom!

For this week, students will complete The Outsiders Webquest. During this assignment, students will be gathering information and learning about the author, setting, and background for the novel.

Essential Questions for this Unit:

-How do authors develop characters?

-How do different points of view impact the understanding of a conflict/situation? 

-How do we write a literary analysis that looks at the development of a character over time?
