Happy Tuesday! As decided by the district, Google Meet is not allowed until further notice, so we won’t be “seeing” each other at 11 a.m. iLearn has video conferencing available but (1) the district has some glitches/issues with that, too; and (2) I’m still trying to figure it out. When we get an updated decision on the video conferencing, I will let you know. I miss seeing your faces. 😘 Please remind your parents to take the survey for the district. (The link is below, in Google Classroom, and was emailed out.) The results will help the district decide on any future changes with online learning.

IMPORTANT District Google Meet Update

Posted by Ann Albertson on April 26, 2020 in Class News |

Dr. Maleyko and the Executive Board made a decision that bans us from using Google Meet with students until further notice. Some students violated the Dearborn Code of Conduct and caused this decision to be made. It is unfortunate because all of my students were doing a great job during our Google Meets. We won’t be able to scheduled any video conferencing because the other video conference platforms are not approved by the district at this time.

Students – you can still connect with me through email and our Google classroom page. I will continue making weekly phone calls, too. Take care.

Happy Friday! Thank you to the many students who are completing the online lessons. Please remember to (1) read directions for the assignments; (2) read the material or worksheets or watch the videos posted carefully; (3) complete the assignment as directed and submit 5th grade quality work (that you are more than capable of doing). Thank you!!

  • Math: AGAIN – Module 6 review for your Topic D quiz Monday – you get the weekend to review. Again, it will be posted in Edulastic and focus on the main learning from lessons 18-20. HOWEVER, there wasn’t a Topic C quiz, and Topic C focused on lessons 13-17, so it might be worth it to review from 13-20. Keep in mind though, as I typically point out in class, that the lessons build on each other. So the material from lesson 13 is still there in lesson 18-20, but being used on the stronger level. Anyway – try to review from 13-20.
  • Math: WarmUp #89 due today – follow the directions in GC
  • Science: (1) set up your Science Journal with the title “Introduction to Ecology -The Biosphere, Ecosystems, Communities & More” (2) Watch the video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xwrsu4w9qkI (3) pause and take notes for as you go through the video. There will be more in-depth work related to the biosphere in the coming weeks (food chains, food webs, biomes, etc – really interesting content!)
  • Reading: 180 Days Week 27 Day 4 – follow the directions in GC
  • 180 Days of Language Day 16 – follow the directions in GC
  • MathWarmUp #88 VIDEO corrections are posted in GC – many of you did not view this (yes, I can see that through my settings). Please go through your work and make corrections.

Student Work

Posted by Ann Albertson on April 23, 2020 in Class News |

Parents – if your child is saying they are completing the work, and you see that it is “submitted,” please know that doesn’t automatically mean they get credit. Some of our classmates are turning in blank documents so that will get “returned” to them from me with an explanation and no credit. Additionally, a few classmates aren’t making a concerted effort – their answers are incomplete, not following the Google Classroom instructions posted for the lesson, or complete nonsense. Again – returned to them with no credit. They can fix and resubmit if they put in effort. I will them rescore their work appropriately.

Thursday, April 23, 2020

Posted by Ann Albertson on April 23, 2020 in Class News |

Happy Thursday! I hope everyone is doing well … as well as can be expected, right? Try to keep perspective: We are not “stuck” at home; we are safe at home. I, too, am struggling with perspective. I am still trying to find the balance between the district expectations for us and what is achievable for you, my 5th graders, with very little parent assistance. I am sorry for being stern with my comments about the work. My intention was not to provoke “fear” but rather for some of you to take it more seriously. Many of you have been taking it seriously, and I greatly appreciate those of you who have been working hard at home. There are several of you though that still aren’t doing any or much of the work. PLEASE make better choices and do the work. Please know that I care deeply for your overall well-being and safety.
