Spirit Week and The Great Kindness Challenge
January 26th – 30th will be Howard Elementary’s annual Spirit Week. Please see the attached link for the event schedule. Woo Hoo Dragons!
This week also starts “The Great Kindness Challenge.” Kindness doesn’t cost anything – we need to sprinkle it everywhere we can. When we do that, we feel great and it typically gets returned to us as well. 🙂 See the links for the parent note and a suggested list of kind things to do to/for someone else. 🙂
Music Link
On the right side in the links column, I placed the link to Mrs. Ventura’s blog so 5th graders can practice for the concert.
Homework and Classwork Expectations
As you are aware, we are in the 2nd card marking of 5th grade. The expectations are a bit higher for student work. Please remind your child of the importance of double checking all work that they turn in. For questions they are answering, remind them to use part of the question in their response, along with the correct answer, and a little detail/example to elaborate the answer. All math work needs to have work shown. This has been the expectation from the very beginning of the school year. If only answers are filled in for math homework, it will result in an incomplete and a card flip. All of these ideas are to help your child develop greater responsibility and get ready for middle school work. Thank you for your help with this!
Traffic Safety!
There have been many concerns with the traffic safety around Howard! Unfortunately, not all drivers are being as cautious as should be expected.
Mrs. Burch is requesting help from parents with traffic safety between 8:25-8:40, and 3:25-3:40. Any help would be appreciated. You can contact her at burchm@dearbornschools.org.
Conferences
Thank you to all parents for coming to discuss your student’s progress. Now that the 1st card marking is over, the pace will continue to pick up. Please make sure your child continues to do their homework after school daily, in addition to reviewing new content, notes, and other information. Your child can take home any books, notebooks, or folders as needed so you can review with them.
Also, please take advantage of ParentConnect to monitor your child’s progress during the card marking. If you have concerns, please contact me to we can set up a day & time to discuss things. Thank you!
New Links for Science and Social Studies
A couple of weeks ago, we started our new units in both Science and Social Studies. On the right side of my page, I added more links that students can visit to help with their knowledge of “The Solar System” in Earth Science and “Colonization and Settlements” in Social Studies Unit 3.
